That's unfortunate. Whenever I talk about rust with my coworkers, getting crates through IT comes up as a major deal breaker. I imagine cooperate approved "packs" would make it much easier for us rust hobbyists to get some pr

I know of at least three projects (with huge budgets) right now that are spawned from the corpses of old, failed projects that never worked. Those old projects make up the legacy of the current effort and can’t be easily thrown away.

Considering that polygraphs are mostly a sham, I'd say no, these couldn't be used to detect emotional state.

I imagine the communities would kind of serve as a public index in aggregate that have a barrier to entry / reputation. If one turns to crap just ignore it with whatever search tool you're using. It wouldn't be about policing

Sometimes it just takes a small changes to make an idea work. Neural networks weren't viable until GPUs/backpropagation. Dismissive comments like this aren't very useful.

Obviously a naïve web directory isn't going to cut it. What would make the approach viable is if there were a nice way to automate and crowd source most/all of the effort. Maybe that means changing the idea of what makes a website

Perhaps there exists a happy medium between: manual curation -- unfiltered PageRank is kind of a pseudo manual curation. The manual effort is just farmed out to the greater internet and analyzed.

The problem is that current search engines are indexing what is essentially a stack of random books thrown together by anonymous library goers. Before being able to guide readers to books, librarians have to the following non-trivial tasks

I’m not sure why valve doesn’t just ship a 64bit client with their own compatibility layer(s). There’s a lot of problems on various linux distros hunting down and setting up the correct 32bit libs. Windows is fine for obvious reasons, but v

Do you think people don’t know that dumping and littering in nature is bad? There is an inherent selfishness at play, especially with little threat of punishment or shame.

Most of those issues are solved by carrying a pack of markers in your bag. My biggest annoyance with dry erase is when people leave markings on for a really long time and board gets stained.

I may press too hard, but I've had a few packs of them and ~50% would break on me and start leaking ink like a squid. Great pens otherwise though.

Looks like the repo and github account were made today. [1] That’s pretty fishy to me. Crates.io has all sorts of other problems where it assumes good faith. [1]: https://github.com/kollaborator

AFAIK ripgrep always uses regular expressions. So for straight substring matching grep will usually be faster.

Those filters are essentially useless garbage that exist for the purpose of attracting potential buyers on a show floor. If the filters were actually desirable, most could be applied at the content level.

I assume OP is in grad school. I took a few grad classes during my undergrad and the difference was night and day (teaching and cohort). So maybe your school was fine and you were just in the wrong classes. :)

Yeah I meant it more as a bad habit, because when you move to other languages you'll have problems. In rust I don't think the style would even compile, and in C you're just playing with fire.

`i > -1` isn't quite right. I'm not sure about how C# does implicit casting, but arrays should be indexed by `usize` and comparing signed w/ unsigned is a bug waiting to happen or UB in other languages.
