Same thing in Europe. Governments are getting involved providing bridge financing to grid operators so the upgrades are done on time - or at least, less late. Bit of a failure of planning though

From what I understand current flight control systems are still written in relatively low level languages like C++, with extremely careful memory management strategies.

I expect that a lot of WWDC will be Apple trying to get more developers to build AI products for their platforms, because at the moment, Apple products don't have much AI. The other tech companies have integrated user facing LLM produc

I can imagine using material graphs is a much better way to experiment, iterate and progressively build up the effects than hand coding a shader. It's kind of like asking why write code in C# in Visual Studio when you can just write as

Nice. What is battery life like under heavy use? I was reading a thread on the llama.cpp repo earlier where they were discussing whether it was possible (or attractive) to add neural engine support in some form.

For me babylonjs was a bit of a leap forward. Great engine + tooling. Nice documentation with tons of examples for how to do things. Besides that, experiment lots and lots! Be very curious. And don't be afraid of 3D math.

Oof - I didn't know that. Kind of a weird requirement, were/are screen readers rendered so ineffective by the content being in a table as opposed to in divs?

This strikes me as potentially a high impact avenue of research. Inductive reasoning is core to human learning.

Exactly this. People need to think critically and not just blindly follow whatever some popular bloggers are saying. It's the same today though - half of HN is utterly convinced rebellious technologies like HTMX are going to save us fr

> everybody was guilt-pressured What, no? I did a lot of web development in those days and read a lot of blogs. You just needed to filter out anyone who was obviously over-opinionated and lacked any nuance. Most pragmatic people used tab

Meh, discouraged by some bloggers, sure. Those of us doing web development in that time (I built some pretty large websites in the days before flexbox) ignored obviously overbearing advice like that. I still occasionally use tables for layo

One of the first I got was a search input with and without border-radius; I selected the "wrong" answer (without border-radius). That's not good or bad design, it's totally subjective. Stupid website IMO

Yeah me and my friends had endless arguments about throws in SF2. Not just the throws but how they were done: jump with heavy kick timed to keep them blocked into a throw was cheap; walking quickly into them to throw wasn’t. Bizarre how com

Yeah, this too. I kind of feel like Elon was actually right that Twitter has become the "public square", but I disagree violently that he should be the one to control and steward it. We need a non-government controlled, non-corpor

This has more or less been my experience too. Things like UI toolkits or game engine primitives are often solved nicely with inheritance. I've been doing a lot with LeafletJS lately, and it has some light inheritance around its drawing

A lot of home automation controls EV charging these days too. Imagine an attack that syncs a country’s EV fleet to charge in a minute where demand is at a peak. You could cause some damage at the switchgear I bet if not worse

Nonsensical argument. JavaScript and TypeScript projects are developed with patches of the original source not some compressed artefact. Take your trolling elsewhere
