HN can be strangley luddite about new technology actually. It's the same with self driving cars - there's a large, vocal crowd on this website who are highly critical of it. And god forbid you put a touchscreen in their car... I t

Ha I got started on the freelancer websites like Upwork where you have to install spyware that takes a screenshot every 10 minutes. Kind of depressing way to work but it did get me started with freelancing.

Not necessarily AI at all. Collision avoidance can work purely based on range finding. Self driving that actually does use AI is all over the place

Sounds like the Hertz CEO and his Tesla fleet. I'm an EV proponent but that was a huge strategic shift and in a short time it became obvious it wasn't well thought through or prepared for at all.

My point was just that startups can still make rockets and planes, therefore this isn't "absolute nonsense". As far as "turning a good profit", well, you might be right but that very much remains to be seen at this

It means more consistent energy output, higher “capacity factors”. It will always be intermittent but taller turbines reduces the intermittency

Wind is just different too. There are subtle advantages to scaling up wind: fixed costs increase but capacity factors do too (taller turbines means they’re turning more % due to more consistent wind speeds at higher altitudes).

Yeah. The shocking speed of progress on AI - especially for coding - tells me quite clearly what the future holds for much of software engineering. Despite the human factors (yes, requirements gathering and specification is messy) our profe

Well I definitely disagree on that. I fall more on the side of “use them for regular errors too” because IMO anything that reduces boilerplate is a good thing. But I also don’t like “magic” so it’s still a bit in tension in my head
