Agreed. I work at a company that does 150 Billion transactions a day and it is cheaper being in the cloud than on prem for us. Maybe the variable cost is more but the fixed cost is a lot less for the business.

For a small site, Amazon Associates is probably the most reliable and non-shady opportunity besides Google. If the site get's a few million pageviews a month, options improve.

I agree with the shade bit, however, I've personally seen several high visibility execs 'fired' with this exact line about staying on for 6 months for the transition. I've never seen anyone stay longer than 4 weeks.
