Mervyn Peake writes very nice English prose that I think you might enjoy. See his Gormenghast series (Titus Groan, Gormenghast, Titus Alone). It's sort-of-fantasy but not really (no magic, no non-humans).

I've been doing this (with my whole OS X system) for a while, and I do recommend it. As a multiple-language-learner, though, what I really want is some app or something to let me assign certain languages to certain apps, and also perhaps ra

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Considered_harmful It's a very common way of titling any essay about anything related to computers that you don't like, as a way of signaling to the audience that you have in fact heard of a 'computer'.

Not just game forums, but forums for isometric 2D non-realtime indie RPGs. It's cliché but probably fair to assume that his customer base is likely selected from the rather more socially awkward end of the spectrum.

Thumb and Thumb2 really aren't any more 'CISC'-y then ARM; about the most cisc aspect would be that thumb2 supports two different instruction lengths (2 and 4 byte) whereas ARM supports only 4 byte instructions. That said i've heard/read th

Yes, this is the only reason I'd ever consider this (though it does look okay, the idea of an iPod on your wrist is _unbelievably_ dorky). On the other hand with an SDK for it I'd consider buying one, never using headphones with it and just

As a language learner I'd love the ability to capture and export (in some fashion) the pre-translated text, as text not an image, to import into SRS learning software. This especially applies to the Japanese/Mandarin support that I hope you

Depending on how their OCR works, Mandarin/Japanese->English(/spanish/&c) could be a _lot_ more difficult (thousands of characters to distinguish) and in the case of Japanese the translation a lot trickier (completely different gram

It's not possible in Snow Leopard but in Tiger/Leopard you can open up the nib files for various system applications and mess with them. Things like adding CoreImage filters to views usually worked ok; I recommend the bloom filter combined

It is a nice jab, but it's a WP7 phone, so they _can't_ add a fancy animated UI anyway. Sense is relegated to being a Hub in WP7.

It seems the hypothesis is that the benchmark originally goes very fast due to dead-code analysis (the function 'cordicsincos' has been marked as dead code, and is therefore not executed). That the test goes much slower when more dead code

I've literally never heard of this (live in Japan, know lots of Japanese people, see a _lot_ of iPhones out and about), and I basically don't buy it whatsoever. Maybe it's something from a couple of years ago?

For the wallet and metro pass they just use a separate RFID card (pasmo or suica). Which is actually pretty normal, you don't really see that many people using their phones for the gates at the metro.

Security-wise I'd be very surprised if Chrome updates weren't signed; MITMing of auto-updates isn't exactly new (see EvilGrade). So I doubt it's an issue there. That said, I agree that there should be an option (not a prominent one) to swit
