It's common to refer to speed ups in powers of ten as orders of magnitude. Maybe that's it?

I think that this is flawed in the sense that most people (including the article's author) might misinterpret it. The paper assumes that we know when a streak ends. So given that we have had a streak of tails and that it's broken

This exactly why string theory comes under fire. "Not even wrong" because that would imply falsifiability.

Probabilistic Graphical Models is a pretty good blend. Not sure how theoretical you want.

I took a step back and read Think Bayes by Downey and watched some of his youtube videos. Then Introduction to Bayesian Statistics by Bolstad is great once you're reading to deal with probabilities. Now I'm reading * Building prob

This is a fragment. There's no way either of these books are less than a couple hundred pages.

The ideas contained in this book and Causality have been a huge influence in my decision of what to focus on learning as a data scientist. Very much recommend it even if you feel like the book might be too dense for you. It definitely was f

Easy there. I've seen people with BS and MS who do exactly what you describe. I don't have a degree at all and I don't do that. Cmon.

In this case I would agree with you. I don't understand the reasoning for the last sentence at all.

My Mathematical Modeling teacher is having us use SageMathCloud! It's a great tool. I didn't know it could be so easy to do things I thought I needed something akin to Mathematica for. Thanks for your effort!

I don't understand the argument against this. I have had even small sites behave differently when moving between Postgres and SQLite. I <3 SQLite but it's not a golden hammer.

The math is well defined and rigorous not every analysis that uses it. I think you're conflating those two things.

Two points: 1. Bayesian statistics allows use of "uninformative" priors. 2. Discarding your subjective beliefs is less than ideal as well as overweighting them. You have beliefs due to your experience. Weight them lightly but stil

Did the article or researchers say it was just because someone was in a different room? The title is "Walking through a doorway makes you forget" not "You forget because you're in a new room."

Is a "new Agile" really what will solve this problem? I think really this just isn't a priority for many employers. Maybe we just need something new so us employees can see who's paying attention and flock there?

Right now, a huge opportunity for Python seems to be data science. I didn't notice it in the list of places where Python shows up. Also, in that space, it more than just shows up, it brings unique capability to the space with its libra

We use redash. This allows forking of queries, charting, and some light dashboarding. Also it supports full text searching of queries and descriptions. It's also stand alone and easy to launch on ec2. https://github.com/
