I read it as a rebuke to a generalized statement that you characterized as US-centric, hence implying that outside of the US the police are your friends. You also said "they do generally want to help" which is a rather explicit ge

Are you a person of color? Do you have piercings, pink hair, stuff like that? Maybe you shouldn't generalize solely based on your personal experience?

If they say "can we come in?" it likely means they're legally not allowed to come in unless you invite them in. Which means they won't kick down your door either if you just don't answer.

The Gestapo becoming subordinate to the SS was the result of said rivalry, so it's odd to present that as evidence that there was no rivalry.

It matters to the workers? I guess there is a cultural aspect, then, playing into this question: (How much) do you care about worker rights?

There were similar rivalries in Germany (e.g. Gestapo vs. SS vs. Wehrmacht) -- different state rackets competing with each other is a common feature of fascism.

I think this is missing the point. Yes you can make seitan from scratch, but it's not necessarily going to be better since seitan with its main ingredient being gluten contains little fiber either way. On the other hand, chickpea flour

Making glass from glass isn't expensive either, kind of similar to how you'd make glass from sand: you melt it. The government needs to set the right incentives, though. Recycling of one-time use glass works quite well in Germany.

> Apples to oranges... That's kind of the article's point. It explains how it's an apples to oranges comparison. If that's obvious to you, you don't need to read it.

I don't understand your example. That ballot paper was counted as a Tory vote, i.e. not as spoiled.

You can just not vote. It has the same impact on the results of the election.

I'm starting to think that disabling MCAS isn't even a sane option because then the pilots are exposed to unexpected aerodynamic characteristics due to the plane's weird design. Does this make sense?
