I blindly followed a 'news' item's advice once on my home Gentoo Linux that said a particular version of glibc should be removed. Learned the hard way that you definitely want to make sure you have emerged another version of

Maybe there's interesting things to see if you change the parameter settings a bit? One thing that can be particularly interesting is using an exponent other than 2.0, regular Mandelbrot is quite interesting (dense and full of 'cu

Time most certainly is not a dimension (or even very dimension-like, in general) in my opinion. It structures the orderings of events, more like some ultimate process that all other processes are hanging off (are a part of). The complexity

I reckon this phenomena could kinda be phrased like this: Moving through space takes up your turns, when you're moving really fast, most of your turns are taken up by moving (so there's less turns left for the operations of ordina

Even just the idea that there are specific cells for this is fascinating, and the fact that they change their 'tick' speed based on mood/interest? I should read the paper!: https://www.pnas.org/content/ea

I think a serious effort on animation is absolutely underway in Houdini (the new 'KineFX' released in 18.5 the other day is a foundational element of this, as I understand it.) Haven't heard anything other than vague hints bu

Hadn't heard much about this guy before, real smart cookie! Amazing to think of him building and operating that 'Tubeless aerial telescope' back in 1684, 336 years ago! Such a hackery-stance on accepting new knowledge too, an

While Maya is widely used at present, in my opinion it is in serious trouble in the near future from competition with Houdini. SideFX keep up an amazing pace of development, and Autodesk don't even seem to be trying to compete at that

What if dark matter is actually a secondary effect (a-la-turbulence) of the flow of space that gravity causes? (I know the idea that space can flow is a fringe idea, but it seems thinking broadly/laterally in this area is not a terribl

On top of this some systems are not only sensitive to initial conditions but actually generate randomness (or destroy order, depending how you look at it), such as class-3 cellular automata.

I also love the idea that computation (ie rule/recipe-following) is fundamental to nature/reality, but I don't think it's pure-maths that is the bedrock. Pure maths (as a tendency, not strictly) focuses on formal systems
