Even in the US, California requires 23andme to "bank" the DNA and store it for 10 years along with the name and PII. This is available to authorities. You cannot request for this to be deleted or destroyed by law.

That's not true. Both iOS and Android support sending encrypted notifications that are decrypted on-device. How do you think Signal notifications work?

I have an Acer laptop with fingerprints and without a MS account. I entered the wrong password to a fake MSFT account and that let me create a local account. Setting up fingerprint scanning was part of the OOBE. If this isn’t possible for y

Sure, I don’t disagree on that. But it’s nice to occasionally use delivery services and enjoy the time or convenience. I also live in the suburbs where I’m not walking to the restaurant, I’m getting in my car.

That seems less problematic for Airbnb if you’re getting the actual listing as described.

If you have 10 restaurants you could do A/B tests. This is massively prevalent for food science and prepackaged goods (through panels and such; usually not to the end customer). Seems like restaurants are catching up.

Yes, he’ll certainly face punishment. But I don’t think he’ll go to prison (or perhaps a suspended sentence) if he cooperated.

It probably would be massively beneficial to society and progress if teaching professors could spend more time and attention on teaching.

You generally have to cater to the lowest common denominator, like that $150 prepaid Android phone with a non-HiDPI screen. Or someone on a 1336x720 Chromebook.

I think the 4th amendment did a good job and is quite specific. The courts rewrote it judicially. > The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects,[a] against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall

The idea that higher valuations drive more innovation is probably not meaningful at the scale we are today. Would the founders work as hard as they did, if instead of making $5bn, they made $2bn? Probably just as hard. Yes, price signals wo

Those tests haven't been analyzed to break down the contribution of P vs E cores, how much of it comes from frequency and how much from IPC, power consumption and throttling performance, etc.

During the interview, he also explained frankly why he declined. As the CEO and face of OpenAI, you don't want to have a position that is inconsistent with the organization's position, which is coming later after the review.

I’d be much more interested in testing of more real workloads. 99.99% of computing involves branch prediction, caching, frontend decoding capacity, memory bandwidth, and more. Usually the bottleneck. Unless you just want to run highly artif

They rented 8xA40 for $3.1k. That is actually kinda peanuts; I spent more on my gaming PC. I think there were kickstarter projects for AI finetunes that raised $200k before Kickstarter banned them?

On a related topic: does anyone know why NVIDIA keeps reducing the bus width on their latest gen cards? A 2060 has a 192-bit bus. A 3060 has a 192-bit bus. A 4060 has a 128-bit bus! ### A 2070 has a 256-bit bus. A 3070 has a 256-bit bus. A

Presumably a significant amount of OpenAI employees are motivated by money, at least in some form. The board just vaporised the tender offer, and likely much of their valuation. It’s hard to have confidence in that.
