Should Google only work on things that it could guarantee to run for at least a few years no matter how it is performing?

You can say the same for every early-stage startups since most of them die anyway.

I'd take take-home over whiteboard interviews. Even with whiteboard interviews, you still need to prepare for them. I would say I probably spend at least 8 hours preparing for them mainly because of its arbitrary nature. I have no idea

Sadly, very few companies care about UX when interviewing. Well, actually, most companies I have interviewed with care about core CS fundamentals and nothing else.

So what if they sunset this service? The worst thing that could happen is you go back to going physically to the store to buy groceries. It's not like you won't have the ability to buy groceries if the service stops. I personally

In addition, Take-home test is better because it is more flexible than an in-person or even phone interview.

SF taxi? I barely remember since it's hard to find one. I tried riding a taxi once and the driver was rude and didn't want to do multiple dropoffs so we got out right away.

I guess this is where diversity is needed. If they have an African-American engineer working on the product, they would have detected this during development.

Take the case of Instagram, they hired several Android Engineers. They added 1 million new users on the 1st day the app was released.

Marginal cost? free glass of water? No. Writing articles cost time and money. They are not free.

How is it not harming them? Sites make money thru advertising and you block those ads. Paywalls don't work for everybody.

So I can go to a store, I don't like how they make money, I'll just take away whatever I want for free? If you don't like how they make money, do not patronize them.

"offering parental benefits is a way to encourage people to have babies" I'm shaking my head reading this comment. Also please do not equate having a baby to pursuing a hobby.

But then people complain that Samsung, HTC, etc changes Android so much that they clamor for Google to control the OS more. Damn if you do, damn if you don't.

I'm trying to figure out if your situation is fortunate or unfortunate. You're fortunate that you've done what you have wanted to achieve at 30 yrs old. Unfortunate that you feel like you're done at age 30.
