I'd wager that people pledge because they want your product, not because they get t-shirts and mugs.

Privacy probably doesn't strictly monopolize HN's concerns because cloud services are Good Enough when it comes to privacy for our Ruby on Rails MVPs, our benign blogs, and our JSconf slideshows. Conflating privacy where privacy is needed w

The award to Blizzard, Inc. for memory scans to prevent cheating in an MMO video game (something that I'd wager most players would accept) sort of cheapens the award when it's shared by widespread government-disseminated trojans and citizen

Web development was never friendly. All the tools you mentioned including Rails are only making it easier and easier. You have to pay the toll somehow. Whether that's the structured , straightforward learning curve of a framework or managin

Forum spam is a generally solved problem. And a non-issue for a forum with no traffic. If you are ever getting hit with xrumer blasts, you just need to rotate your "What is 5+5?"-type registration questions because someone hard-coded your r

Rest assured that your attitude is far more insufferable and real than the "culture invasion" you're concerned about.

Doing what anybody else would do after looking at those two projects, I googled "railwaysjs vs towerjs" and found the question on Stack Overflow with an incredible comparison made by the creator of towerjs: http://stackoverflow.com/questio

There really isn't a Rails vs Node dichotomy, though. More like Sinatra vs Express -- you can write glue code in the Ruby ecosystem as well if that's what you want to do. You use Rails because you want and understand the magic, not because

The majority of my free time goes into the Ruby/Rails ecosystem, but I decided to finally jump into javascript for real and force myself to grok things like closures and context (still strugglin'!) the past month. Node isn't a new language.

I plucked the relevant points of discussion that reveal the thought process. Q: "I've heard for years that pagination should remain outside rails since it has to be lightweight, and now that !?" homakov: good example, but "pagination" is a

I mean to specify higher level design conventions, as in the structuring decisions you'd have to make in a non-trivial app. For instance, my experience with Express. The popular Peepcode screencast makes a Django'esque `apps` directory and

Looking back on my highschool years and previous, my parents tried to encourage me to grow out of all sorts of phases. They'd barrage me with empty platitudes like "just be yourself" when my primary frustration in life was that I didn't kno

Since Railscasts.com is now making money through subscriptions, I'm surprised nobody's made a Djangocasts.com. Back when I was only flirting with web frameworks, Railscasts' bite-sized videos were the easiest way to get a taste of Rails.

I think you meant Ruby instead of Rails-based. Some alternatives that come to mind are Toto (Git-based like Jekyll) and Typo (Rails-based). Frankly, I'd rather have a Rails blog with page caching than use Jekyll.
