But at the end of the day, you share your time on earth for only a brief moment with the rest of us. Is it possible that you derive more value sharing the film consumption experience and discourse with your friends and peers than some crusa

Yeah, I just graduated and I'm excited to finally have time to teach myself through programs like this. At my university, I would have had to officially change majors just to take this sort of course.

My 21-year-old roommate sells security devices on a website he updates in Dreamweaver. Parts of it break on my 9" screen. Makes good money.

Anything that reads the DOM/CSS will be able to make it human readable again. Especially Firebug and Chrome's Inspector. You could even leave the source minified and add your custom CSS cascades at the bottom of the source that you take fro

Even a minimal blog written in Rails can cache to .html files with a page caching line in the PostsController and some lines for expiration when new posts are created/updated/destroyed.

Seriously. The best case scenario when I google an error is that a Stack Overflow link pops up. I wasn't big into coding when Experts Exchange was consistently #1, but I somehow stumbled into it regardless. I also can't stand mailing lists.

This is how I feel about Unity and why I moved to Debian+Openbox. Unity might be incredible on a tablet when ctrl+space to bring up a launcher and typing "fir<enter>" to launch Firefox is slower than slapping an icon with my sausage

Ever since I started using launchers to find programs/files/settings, I realized the pointlessness of a Start button. For Windows, I used Launchy. In Linux, I'm typing the program name into terminal. The average user uses the Start menu as

What about sweeteners like Zylitol and Stevia? The women in my family consume them exclusively. Frankly, the signal to noise ratio is so bad whenever I try to look up these things that I've grown immune to the discourse. Every few months, t

I use Skeleton on my blog. You're worried that it's missing some features? Skeleton has no features. It's a grid, some typography, and some defaults. On the other hand, Bootstrap is a complete front-end package. They're very different. Lo

I didn't even notice the LESS variables and built a dark theme in about 20 minutes by cascading over Bootstrap vanilla. Upgrading isn't an issue as long as you make customizations in a separate file that you simply include after bootstrap

Why would you think you can't? Once your app conforms to Bootstrap's markup, you already have a markup/class hierarchy that makes custom styling easy. There's a blog out there that shows Bootstrap sites in the wild and they're customized. I

I did a side-by-side of a simple design when trying to choose one. Bootstrap just has better defaults with things like padding, sizing, and margins. It just looked better. Now that Bootstrap has responsive design, there's no contest.

I take a low dose of Vyvanse and I agree. Diagnosed in my 20s. Always dreaded school. The 8-hour-day stagnant, unchallenging classroom model never compelled me. Maybe it's time to accept that if a kid isn't compelled by our education system

You can still use attr_accessible in the controller-layer. class AccountsController < ApplicationController include ActiveModel::MassAssignmentSecurity attr_accessible :first_name, :last_name ... http://api.

It eventually clicks. I started actively teaching myself Rails in Dec 2010 after dabbling with it off and on for years. Went in blindly like most of us do. The uneasiness of the aloofness was eased by the fact that I was learning every day

Exactly. Programming is logical. Styling isn't. Knowing that `margin: 0 auto;` centers elements in CSS isn't a left-brain, right-brain thing. It's just something unintuitive that you accept until you stumble upon the New Way of doing it.

I think Hartl's tutorial is a must. At least the first three or four chapters. It's probably the fastest way to get on the road with Git, Github, Heroku, and TDD from square one.

Not at all. You can be more productive in another language for reasons that have nothing to do with the merits of either language. For instance, the Justin.tv guys already use a lot of Python in their stack outside the RoR app server.
