I think that's very much personal preference. I tried KDE a few months ago and I couldn't stick with it; it is slower than Gnome in a lot of ways, it's (to my eyes) much more cluttered, and has lags at annoying places. For ex

Yep. All my deployments I set up so they can be run from anywhere (with the right deps and auth), even though I rarely need to use it. Makes it easier to test deployment processes too.

I haven't used it seriously for that purpose so I can't comment :). Just my home setup. Their other products have their rough edges though so I can understand.

This is amazing. I don't own a Mac, and I don't get those kinds of messages, yet I still want to buy it.

Pretty plausible. It would be hard to put off that cash infusion.

I like parceljs too. I haven't used it on big projects (plus I'm not a web dev currently) but I found it to be more "config when you need to change the defaults" than "no config". But that's great. It work

I have a system too. Every time I want to record something I simply have an anxiety attack.

Same reason poetry has slow (but accurate) dependency resolution. It would be nice to have as part of the repo API.

Not really related but I got a surface pro to replace an Android tablet and even though I'm a native Linux user I find myself doing some light dev work on it. It's quite pleasant even with only 8gb of RAM. It only cost $700 though

I had no idea he wrote Star Wars novels but this thread reminded me of him so I bought a few others to reread :). Hope he can get what he's entitled to.

It's attempting to shift blame around in exactly the same way as shifting half a contract. The profits but not the consequences.

I'll have to try KDE again, I always found it really messy and disorganised (but that was many years ago). It's really hard not to have some bias, but I used OSX for work for about five years, currently been using Windows at work

Unbiased was probably a poor choice of words, there's always biases of some sort. As you said motivations, financial in particular, are the main problem. I guess there's also an onus on us readers to do some of our own fact checki

I had such high hopes for that wikinews thing. I'd gladly pay for unbiased reporting. Maybe all the recent political fiascos (in many nations) will start making people more receptive to the idea.

There's also the issue of having your music collection tied to a cloud provider. I've been using Play Music for years, happily, but I don't much like the replacement (YouTube/YouTube Music/whatever). And I don'

I haven't compared ram usage but vscode feels (subjectively obviously) very slow by comparison to me. Intellij is a beast of an application in terms of features also.

I only know about him from the king of Kong (like many people probably) and I'm always wary of how those things can create a bias in editing, but man does he come across as a world class jerk in that.

My recollection (which could be completely wrong) was that they had a branch with it, but it really needed hardware transactional memory to memory to have decent speed for most applications.

Agree. Nothing wrong with doing what works for most things, but with backups it's easier to use an appropriate process from the start. It's easy enough and saves you grief later.
