Anedoctically, it's a thing the other way around too. When I moved to the UK from Italy, lots of foods tasted too sweet to me. After a year here, I don't feel that any more.

I use an electric shaver, and it takes less than a minute per day. My last shaver lasted 12 years, the amortized cost is negligible... I'm curious how much time/cost were you considering.

I agree that public transportation can't be the only solution everywhere. But, in cities above a given density, it's the only solution that can work without daily congestions.

Driving a car point to point without traffic is obviously going to be faster. But if everybody drives point to point, there will be a lot of traffic and jams. The difference with public transportation is that it could move everybody without

The risk you describe is real, but good testing coverage lowers it in a way that I find way more efficient than static type checking. When I have that good coverage - which for me means the full pyramid of testing, not just unit tests - I a

When I was using c++, the pain came when I discovered that I had to refactor my types because of some cases I didnt know about... Maybe that's easier with more modern statically typed languages.

Most often in imdustry, you have to begin any complex project without a deep understanding of your domain values, because that understanding only comes iteratively. In my experience, the biggest drawback of static typing is that it forces

Actually, medical care does scale a lot: many conditions are much easier and less expensive to treat if found early. An expensive system brings lots of people to postpone care and screening.

So what looks bad to you isn't the fact that a medical company will try to get all your money when you're most vulnerable, but the fact that they need to resort to a middle man to be able to do that in the face of regulation? Cool
