Although I agree with your argument, I think it actually is algorithmically hard to do this. Isn't this the travelling salesman problem? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travelling_salesman_problem Of course, a non-optimal, but good enough

I think this exactly the problem with most arguments about God. People rarely state a definition of what constitutes a God. As far as I am personally concerned, a God who is not omniscient and omnipotent is no God at all; it's just a much m

It's reasonable to assume he reasoned out the existence of God as taught to him by his Catholic parents because he realized some of the typical actions taken by this God don't jive with his understanding of Physics.

I don't think the debate is between xmonad and some WM. The debate is between Ubuntu's Gnome set-up before Unity and Ubuntu's set-up with Unity. Ubuntu's Gnome set-up was never been like xmonad or even a tiling window manager and neither is

Did you miss the very last line of his comment? "Knowing that they exist can help us make better decisions." He's making this admission with the expressed desire of changing, not trying to justify or excuse it.

An exception is simply a change in control flow and, if I'm not mistaken, this can be modeled easily in a purely functional system. I imagine a real system like Scheme, Racket, etc. would use call/cc, but I can best explain this with Contin

It is my opinion that the article does not suggest that "it's so terrible that I'd rather watch, say, a deep-sea fisherman risk his life than try deep-sea fishing myself." It actually directly chastises, in the following quote, the people w

I know little of the way medical schools operate, why and to what degree does Harvard Med require disproportionately large funding from the endowment? The cost of attendance for all of Northeastern's undergraduate students for one year is 1

What about the value of actual projects? I have a high GPA, but I'd be pretty disappointed if a company didn't stop to look at any of my github projects before they considered me. Those repos show off my creativity and my desire to build in

I agree wholeheartedly. I've got 2 semesters worth of school left and I'm scrambling to fit in all these non-major classes. It's a real pain to be at a university without free (as in beer) overloading. I had an enlightenment about a year ag

I've been back and forth about how to respond to your comment. My initial reaction was "'func()' is a call and therefore returns an expression." Having thought about it, I don't really remember what my neophyte reaction would have been.

Your insight into performance is obviously good, but I'd rather see the students focus on writing code which is obvious to them and have the compiler/interpreter realize there's a ton of redone work. I think you can do this with flow analys
