I saw parsec-coffee-script a while back and really wanted to help, but I was quite busy. I'd love to see hygenic macros in coffee-script... Unfortunately, it looks like parsec hasn't been committed to since February. Anyone know what the st

Ruby has a penchant for giving you more than enough rope to hang yourself on, and "Ruby keyword arguments" are no different. I've seen them used in the wild. It's horrendous. The code I had to update was poorly written, but the functions wi

To be clear, the parent post is referring to the invention of LISP. As a side note, for those who don't know, JavaScript shares a number of features with LISP/Scheme. JSON has the trappings of the very LISPy idea of "Data = Code". It doesn'

I know three very bright, young graduates who have decided to enter the Financial industry (i.e. Algorithmic Trading). One has a Bachelor's in Physics & CS, another a Bachelor's in Physics & Math, and the other is finishing a PhD in

I'm not comfortable with the connotation that "regime" brings, but I had the same thought as you. This technology and equipment will find itself in the hands of Americans if the US government tries to shutdown the Internet Mubarak-style. Ho

I'm kind of curious who has the selection bias here, me and my social group or the people responding to this thread. I've been using Ubuntu since 2008 and before that some hodgepodge of Gentoo and Fedora since '06. Since going to Ubuntu, I

I want to really emphasize what the parent post says. I'm currently an undergraduate and I am having an exceptional experience. Two summers ago, I worked with a professor one-on-one to build a compiler for a subset of Scheme. From last sum

Personally, I'd rather toss Lisp entirely and go with Scheme, but something definitely needs to be done about elisp. There's a small group of undergrads here at NU hacking on Edwin, a Scheme based Emacs clone originally developed at MIT.
