I plan to come -- someone asked me to offer up my iPhone dev talk, so I'll see if there's any interest.

Avoid anything that requires reading more than a few paragraphs and (heaven forbid) any kind of "wizard". On first-run, I have an assistant (Mac developer euphemism for wizard) in my app (wonderwarp.com/shovebox) and I haven't quite decided

Depending on how long you plan to spend developing the program... ..if you're just relying on Core Animation for a few animations, you can write those yourself. And if you're not going to use Obj-C 2.0 GC for performance reasons, strike tha

I second this recommendation. I learned a lot about economics from this book...and felt my liberal latte-drinking hippy self shifting a good deal towards the right :).

I've found this too. Lately this week, I've been getting up several hours before I have to go to work and spend some time hacking on my own stuff. I think this is a more reliable way to keep that time free.

One last thought: Just about every night when I'm about to fall asleep, I'll notice the logical inconsistency of my own thoughts and think something to the effect of "Wait, what exactly do kangaroos have to do with zeppelin pilots anyway? O

When I first saw this book, I thought it looked like self-help BS from a pretty sleazy guy... ...but a lot of credible, intelligent people have recommended it lately. I'm going to have to check it out. It might have some value.

RetailMeNot.com works well, but they also send you coupons in email and physically when you order stuff. I've gotten as much as 90% off before. It's one of those sites, like GoDaddy, that you never want to order from without checking for an

As an aspie myself, I generally try not to let people know about it, but I debated on something in my resume the last time I was job-searching. I co-founded a major AS website with 17k+ registered users, but you definitely don't want to dis

Neither. The problem isn't aspies or the rest of the world. The problem is a lack of understanding of neurodiversity. Everybody is different neurologically, weird, undefinable, sometimes subtle ways. The only way our society can grasp that

I liked this rant, immature as it might be. Just about every month, some business student will come to me and say they've got some "amazing idea" and just need someone to do the work of implementing it. Before I even hear their idea, I do

I average roughly the same. The last time I had a dayjob, I did about that amount of work each week, then stepped it up considerably in the couple weeks before a big release. My problem is that, while working on my own stuff is fun, I'm oft

I meet a lot of kids like this at my school. They don't learn anything on their own or do any work if it's not part of some pre-defined "program" or "track".

This seems kind of silly. Maybe I'm just cynical, what could you learn from this class that you couldn't by just reading the documentation?
