I've seen others knock down this report already, but I'm having trouble finding a link. What those other articles noted is that this is US-only, online-only sales (and I believe from people who opted in to provide this data). Appl

The sort of is, now. Retailers in the US that don't support chip cards now have to accept the liability for fraud. For many retailers, that means getting new credit card terminals... and if you're upgrading your credit card termin

It seems highly unlikely that "seeing users flee to alternatives like Pale Moon" has anything to do with this. How many users do you suppose Pale Moon has? Firefox competes at a very large scale. Browsers that are not Chrome, IE,

The leaderboards are built on top of Khan Academy infrastructure, but the "hustle" calculation is not reflected (or computed, for that matter) anywhere else on Khan Academy.

There are quite a few differences from the old "JScript" days. First of all: TypeScript is liberally licensed open source. JScript was totally proprietary. Another aspect is that TypeScript is seeking to be a strict superset of Ja

"Hustle" in LearnStorm is intended to reward productive persistence in learning how to tackle a new math skill. We don't go into the details of how we measure that because we want the kids to just do the challenge as they nat

It's region based because there are in-person events and effort that goes in to getting kids signed up. We also have regional sponsors that help provide prizes and make the events great.

I interpreted that part as being relevant given some of the statements from the Presidential nomination process going on today. That said, this point in the nomination process is not very indicative of where things end up. Potentially more

There's a pretty big difference between emscripten and compilers that specifically target JS. The ones that target JS will generally use JS memory management and attempt to use JS language features whereas emscripten targets asm.js and

Thanks for that! Must be archaic indeed because I cannot remember ever having seen reëvaluate before. I appreciate the correction. If I had a cat, I'm pretty sure it would give me one of those "see I told you so" looks right

I realize it's a bit of a nitpick, but I kind of like the "heavy metal umlaut" in "reëvaluating" in the first paragraph. In context: > [...]cats seem to be constantly reëvaluating the merits of our relationship,

I'm guessing that YouTube is quite popular on mobile devices. Beyond that, though, I think the fact that this service is bundled with Google Play Music is a big deal. There's a market already for $10/month music services... n

We're trying to reduce the amount of JavaScript on our pages and have decided at this point to move forward with Redux as our common approach to state (keeping an eye on things like Relay and Falcor as we move along).

Premature optimization is the root of all evil. Using immutable objects means that the overhead for checking a component that has not changed what it's rendering is a couple of function calls plus an object identity check. Modern JS ca

Sure, the `then`s could be pure functions but the whole point of my blog post is that I'd like to be able to test code that calls `fetch`. That would be possible if the actual side effecting operation is deferred to later, and not just

Even more amazing, at the time Mike started SQLAlchemy, his day job was working in Java... So SQLAlchemy was a total side project. I don't know if that has changed. Mike is a master.
