This argument reminds me of the "waterboarding is not torture" argument, both suffer from slothful induction fallacy. If waterboarding is not torture then why would you apply it to detainees to confess information they otherwise w

But Google was and is a debate club - there is extensive information about Google's multiple discussion boards and lively cluture of dialectics. Why do you object/punish a single discussion that you happen to disagree with?

It was said elsewhere in this discussion - the memo never claimed what Edith completely and uterly disagrees with. It is a straw man argument. Cite the passage from the memo to prove me wrong.

Nobody can because he never claimed that. This is what strikes me the most about the whole diversity memo gate: even the most high profile responses, including this one, contain straw man arguments and not many people seems to care. The eng

I am very concerned about Google using AI to filter hoaxes from search results. Government testing syphilis on black population or selling drugs to fund terrorism? That must clearly be a hoax, right?

Who wants to play an Arguman game with me? Not specifically about the diversity memo but about positive discrimination in general. http://en.arguman.org/positive-discrimination-at-work-is-imm...

Nice strawman you've build there ;). "Expertise in one field doesn't make you an expert in everything", sure! But not being an expert in given filed does not make you clueless. And that was my argument.

The discrimination arises when you start to assume that a specific candidate is "less willing to learn new programming languages" because you have this preconception about his age group and he belongs to that age group.

Disagreeing with Damore’s arguments is perfectly ok. Not liking the style of his memo is perfectly ok. Calling Damore young and clueless is useless ad hominem. Chances are he is smarter than you and me and the memo is actually well sourced.

I totally agree with everything up to the last sentence. State can be a horrible manager too, trust me I am from Europe. Is the problem not about lack of competition and all kinds of barriers?

Ubiquitous sexism is certainly one of the biggest problems of modern society but as a man I don't think that collectively blaming all men with some universal gender sin will ever achieve anything.

I need that Pierce book 20 years ago. As a self thought I often regret that I did not have the luck to stumble upon some amazing book instead of learning fragmented bits from blogs and tutorials.
