It's incorrect to say that Perfect Pitch means you can pick out any of the 12 tones commonly used in western music. It doesn't mean that; that can only come with training. The core ability with perfect pitch is to remember a note

They see themselves as outside the norm, and often it scares them to death. They crave belonging to the 'normie' tribe, and so strive to rub down their sharp edges. I've known people like this and they make me sad.

Guess this is a Shameless plug but I wrote an interesting program over 12 years ago using even then very old three Js which is not quite the metal but much less abstract than today's tools. I'm always amazed when I check it and it

For young people just starting in life, money may be a gating Factor or at least it was when you had to buy vinyl. but as you get older, the resource you most worry about is time. Watching a 2-hour movie that you don't like is 2 hours

I worked on an army funded project designing software and simulations for a robot that had been canceled. But the money was budgeted so the work had to continue otherwise I guess someone would have had to give the money back or something?

Hit #1. Encouraged us to apply for YC. Told we made "top 10%" but no dice. I think we could have leveraged it more effectively but it's hard to get everything lined up right. We sort of pivoted from what was big on "show

I was involved in a high profile business case that took over 6 years and went up to the Supreme Court. Another case I was involved in years ago took 7 years to resolve. I've heard stories that India was the worst with some cases passi

Yes, that is roughly correct. You nay want to look up "reversible computation". It's a fundamental part of quantum computing, for one thing. The key insight is that a (finite) discrete, reversible system will always eventuall

I like the connection to Fermi. It seems to me eventually there has to be a concrete answer to the following question: Given the laws of physics, and the "initial conditions" (ie the state of the Universe at the moment of the Big

I need to digest this but it is a seductive idea. My quick take: there may be a connection between back-propagation and reversibility, both computational and physical. For a system to be reversible implies conservation of information. It al

(Not with the company) My observation is that ROS 2 is the go-to solution for new projects. Established co's have sunk cost in proprietary stacks and tend to spread the "ROS is slow and bulky" meme, but the reality is a sane,

As pointed out in replies, GPT-4 does well with RPS. However I have not encountered a single other model that consistently understands the game logic, so for me it's a litmus test for models claiming to compete with GPT-4.

So very true. I think basically x86 architecture was meant to be compiled from C, not assembled. It might as well have been COBOL for all I cared. Atari 400/800 6502 asm were glory days for me.
