The comment above warns against it due to the embedded timestamp info as a info leak risk. Perhaps that was a problem for them in some circumstance.

Could it be people don't want to hire someone who would record and upload their sacking from a previous job? I don't know what that indicates about a person but it's probably some sort of red flag. Particularly when there are

I don't agree with your last statement. I've been programming forever, and I understand recursion, and I use it, but I never equate it with loops in my mind (unless I'm deliberately thinking that way, like now) and I always f

I think most people learn about loops before they've learned about functions because your first example maps obviously to your last. I don't think your middle example would be obvious to most people learning about functions until

I think sw engs have always played a large part in the success of space missions, including emergencies. Even the apollo and early unmanned missions would have been disasters without sw engs finding ways to just get things working.

I often ask myself this. I think of how much I (used) to pay for coffee & lunch each week, but balk at buying a game or tool. It took years to convince myself to buy a coffee machine but I'm pretty sure it will pay for itself in le

My chickens roost in a tree in the back yard. It's an easy tree for them to get into, they can walk/climb up from the ground a fair way then an easy flap to get to their preferred branches. In summer they disappear into the leaves

Yeah, it's pretty annoying. I could happily live without animation, transparency, and rounded corners in my UI. Not sure what new 'features' I couldn't live without. I don't use the background indexing/search s

Until organisations start to treat people as valued employees rather than disposable cogs whose only value is to make investors richer, this will continue.

We are a capitalist society so we do not like spending too much money in things that are not either clear and immediate threats or stand to make rich people a lot richer relatively quickly. It should be easy to argue that the chip situation

I'm with you. Any company that uses the word 'disruption' simply means making investors richer and everyone else worse off in numerous ways, and the utopian vision of people simply getting 'better jobs' when displac

I looked into using LISTEN/NOTIFY recently and I must be misunderstanding. How is it different to polling a table? It seemed like it had all the same machinery behind it.

I have in the distant past. I am so grateful I don’t have to anymore. Even the embedded space seems to have mostly ditched for-pay IDEs and compilers.

Home computers didn't need multi-user capability or much in the way of security (other than anti-virus) back then. I'd argue they still don't. I don't think these two things were the problem. I can take or leave shared l

BASIC, 80s style. Just to get an idea of what programming is. Even line numbers are sort of easier to understand than labels. Any language created in the last 40 years is too complicated for a self learner who isn’t a natural.

I’m finding ave harder to watch as time goes by. He’s got some conspiracy stuff going on and while he’s clearly intelligent & educated I wonder if he all that much smarter than most of us or if he’s just bluffing sometimes. He’d be fun

I’m not sure where TOT sits. He’s not particularly ‘how to do it’ like mrpete222 or maybe Presso, but he’s not trivial dumb stuff either. He’s entertaining and I think YT would be worse without him.

My hobby is model engineering and it's quite stressful when you're hours or days into a part and every new operation risks ruining it. Not only have you wasted that time and effort but also the material, and if you stuff it up you

I don't think you need to be particularly smart to be an avg software developer; the older I get the more I realise how average I am. When I started work as a teenager I used to think I was a brilliant programmer - hah, no way! But I d
