That is not worth highlighting. This sort of behaviour by companies continues the dehumanisation of the workforce and should be unconditionally condemned. Anyone who thinks this is reasonable can only be stuck in an SV bubble like people wh

Why aren't these people walking out in support of the warehouse workers who are in much worse straits?

I know it's not your code, but related to this comment, it looks like it missing a check for lks == null? https://github.com/robdelacruz/lkwebserver/blob/main/lkstrin...

Money people don't seem to think like that. And if the company was going to go under due to debt, I guess he's making an effort to save it and make it rise from the ashes?

I think so too. Elon laid waste to Twitter devs & SRE and that has allowed other companies to feel it's ok now. But that's not the whole thing - it sounds like there was massive over-hiring of devs and some madness of trying t

In a sea of madness, that stuck out to me. I'm sure he's getting paid somewhat more than anyone he's castigating. That guy is suffering a bad mental break. I do agree remote work isn't as good as being there - and I did

People like this have never been common - probably only a vanishingly small proportion of any generation. The trades have always been seperate skillsets because any one of them takes a long time to become proficient in. I do wonder about th

They are rewarded, to an obscene degree. They are paid unimaginable amounts for 'business as usual' never mind doing their job well which very few seem to be doing.

I've been a developer full time for 35 years, since I was 16 years old. I've led teams, I've been a systems architect, I've never been fired. I can program in Java, C/C++, Python, COBOL, asm of various flavours. I&#

Many of these companies and people are producing nothing of value, so there is an argument that the companies won't be worse off afterwards. But the people will, for sure. And the company leadership should be held accountable for that

Skill trumping credentials and connections has not been my experience in a 35 year career. The gatekeeping by recruiters and HR departments is extreme - until I got my CS degree a couple of years ago I could not get interviews anywhere, des

Can't do that - the spiders are mandatory and come free with every shed. Snakes are optional though. The lethality of Australia is vastly overstated. I'm guessing North and South America are both much more dangerous than here.

LOL, exactly. I'm trying hard to feel sorry for SV FAANG workers getting laid off but I can't[1]. I'm also struggling to see how their self-esteem will take years to recover from this. Those cosseted 'engineers' ear

Of course. We make miniature working models, powered by coal and steam. If you just meant the weirder types of loco, then yes to that too - someone will be making one. Turbine locos are not unknown and the Model Engineer magazine has had a
