Right - but my point is that simple anti-competitive behavior is not necessarily running afoul here. IT would be anti-competitive, but for the FTC to be involved the case needs to include monopoly abuse or stopping hard-driving competition.

I see this a few times on here about DOJ or FTC stepping on to Apple like Microsoft, and I think it's pretty off base. In order for that to happen a few things need to occur. First, the government needs to prove that Apple has a monopoly. H

This could be very exciting for amateur analysis of the game. That could potentially have some really cool effects on how we understand the game as data could be recorded and looked at closer, maybe an even greater data based era on the hor

Or maybe it was just me or I gave up trying, they appear to be there now at least on the website, no transit layer to view, but directions do appear.

So far for me yes. Interestingly enough since I live in DC - I never had transit directions in Google Maps anyway.

They already allow turn-by-turn navigation apps, and allow applications for GMail, Chrome (thought they don't get the full baked in system feel). For the most part the duplicated functionality requirements aren't as strict as they were from

Are you running Power Nap on battery? Also are you leaving USB items plugged in? On Lion at least I noticed that if I left my USB HD in, and closed the lid on battery it killed it, every time. There was an Apple Support thread confirming th

Again though, Apple is one manufacturer. They make a device and supporting software for that device. Unlike the situation with Microsoft where they were licensing software to multiple device makers. It was the OEM agreements that led to the

Let me preface this with IANAL, just a very interested person. It may very well be, but having a monopoly alone isn't not a crime. A crime in this case would be abusive practices of the monopoly. What makes United States v. Microsoft differ

This is interesting to me as someone who works for a subsidiary of a parent company, suffice to say we are very, very much in competition with a number of the other subsidiaries. This in turn is how the parent company benefits, by getting a

A fine point to be sure, but again we already can see everything a user does on most websites - and most people don't even know about it. Even with that knowledge though wiretapping still leads people to being caught. http://www.boston.com

I think there's plenty of abuse and they should be improved - but I don't think its crazy that in time there would be a system where, with a warrant, investigators could wiretap someone's online activities - provided they had reasonable sus

I think it's also important to note that our understanding of molecular biology while impressive is still so incomplete and there is much to learn. This is a kind of cool Wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_molecular_biol

Considering Google makes its money through selling advertising, of which GMail is a big part of that, I'd imagine having iOS users viewing GMail in an app that shows GMail's ads would be a priority for them.

Kinda. In order to get HBO Go you need to be a subscriber, through your cable company. And not ever cable network is providing access to HBO Go, though I hear Time Warner Cable, is close to doing so.
