That’s not what this particular thread is about, you’re referencing the parent topic but not the current thread. This is about whether they contribute to open source or not.

It lets you pump more pixels in a given bandwidth window. People are conflating rendering (which is not what I’m talking about) with transmission (which is what I’m talking about). Lowering the quality outside the in focus sections lets the

Foveated streaming is cool. FWIW the Vision Pro does that for their Mac virtual display as well, and it works really well to pump a lot more pixels through.

Because a modern OS is much higher fidelity and there’s limits to how fast all those components can load. You may not care about the newer features , or think you don’t at the least, but there’s a limit to how fast they can be loaded. More

It is amusing to see amateur web devs tripping over themselves to make this into a big issue when experienced devs this is a big nothingburger. It’s frontend code. It’s not an issue that the front end can see it.

That’s not just a Medium thing, lots of text systems do exactly that. Apple has done it across their systems for ages. Microsoft did it in Word for a long time too. It was more or less standard on any tool that was geared towards writers lo

That basically amounts to the same thing. LLMs are pretty good at faking responses to conversational questions.

I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s not just that people “cheat” during interviews with an LLM…it’s that they have atrophied a lot of their basic skills because they’ve become dependent on it. Honestly, the only ways around it for me are 1.

With the exception of AVFoundation, I’d covered all of those in my comments. That’s not a lot of surface area. Games are typically not using a significant portion of AppKit beyond what I already mentioned, and AVFoundation is likely also a

Could you give examples at least of what you think that big collective footprint might include? Bear in mind that a large chunk of Mac gaming right now that needs translation are windows games translated via crossover.

Games use a very small portion of the native frameworks. Most would be covered by Foundation, which they have to keep working for Swift anyway (Foundation is being rewritten in Swift) and just enough to present a window + handle inputs. D3D

The use of RC is orthogonal to the memory safety guarantees of Rust. The use of RC and safety checking of it is handled at compile time, and only the refcounting aspect is runtime. RC is a form of declaring shared use and is a parallel to s

If you don’t mind moving the whole issue to runtime, then sure. The value of rust is that you catch these issues at compile time so you’re not releasing these sorts of bugs in the first place and aren’t reliant on the capabilities of the us
