Even though macOS won’t let you replace the actual binaries that ship with the OS, you can still replace the binaries that get resolved when they’re called via brew/nix/macports etc. I again disagree with your assertions that you

I very much disagree with this sentence > However, with Linux, you need to be able to change anything and everything on the immutable part, and this requires a new philosophy and set of tools. Taking macOS as a North Star as a successful

That’s fair. I agree that the ergonomics of the immutability matter , but I think that’s true of any aspect of a distro. I think there’s been well done immutable systems and it’s something that can be achieved with a mainstream Linux distro

How would you define an immutable distro that would exclude macOS with SIP? And steamOS is totally a general purpose OS, it’s just got a non-general purpose frontend it defaults to.

The advantage is you always have a core system that you can revert into by removing any problematic overlays, and you can always quickly verify that a system is in a verified and unmodified state. This is how macOS works with SIP, and how i

I’m honestly surprised Immutable distros is so controversial. I get why people choose not to do it, but I don’t know why I see so much hate towards them in a lot of Linux communities. SteamOS is immutable and incredibly successful. macOS (n

To note, the items used in surgery don’t all need to be medically certified for use if they’re not involved in the interaction with the person being operated on. They just need to adhere to certain standards and maintenance. This is why you

Yes they are. Here are articles and videos for surgery use. Previously, the HoloLens was used for the surgery market and the Vision Pro has largely replaced it. https://time.com/7093536/surgeons-apple-vision-pro/

To your last point, you’re confusing the iPhone 3G and the original iPhone. The original iPhone was the one that had a price drop after launch which included the apology response, not the iPhone 3G. To the rest of your point, I’m sure Apple

I suspect your expectations for sales are much loftier than Apple’s. The million sales mark was from one single report by Kuo. Kuo himself previously said they were limited to ~900K display units which is ~450K devices and other analysts ha

Yeah the black magic folks have such a great perspective on workflow and ecosystem. Their color science too is very nice and I think they’re making good moves with the 17k.

Your comment is incorrect in many ways. Based on your comment, I don’t believe you’ve actually tried it? Firstly, it is not passthrough video. Secondly, you cannot currently have the same experience on the quest. You can have lower quality

I’m not sure the Ursa Immersive is actually two sensors, though it might be. It’s based on the Ursa Cine 17k (which is shockingly close to the exact resolution needed) so it might be a single sensor as well. Which would help with synchroniz

I feel like I already covered the answer to your question in the comment you’re replying to. The canon fisheye lens does not have the same IPD as this lens. Beyond that, you’d still be limited by the sensor. The highest RED sensor is 8k? Th

Feels a bit premature to survey this because most of the very user forward features only released last week, so are still very early in having users update. The ones in 18.1 are significantly more in the background and restricted to the US.

Boot time rarely matters since most TVs just sleep, and not shut down. Cold boots are reserved for failure situations or updates. I agree with the point that most people deal with terrible user experience. A lot of my friends ask me why I w
