I really wish someone had the political capital to do something about the tabloids. They’re really a detriment to society.

Well said. I really wish we had a better word for someone who is bullied into suicide. It’s tantamount to manslaughter imho. Recently, a snark/bullying community on Reddit resulted in the suicide of their target (a woman responsible fo

One thing to note that isn’t captured by the graphics on the site, is that the new 2025 icons are layered and have material effects. So they look flatter on the site than they do in use. I recommend folks watch the introduction to icon comp

While I appreciate the ACM having an article on this, their own site is a poor example of good UX. And some of their conferences are just downright awful UI https://s2025.siggraph.org/

Like I said, you can gate by capabilities but not by hardware. I was referring to your last paragraph about the supposed explicit compatibility settings in the App Store per hardware. That is not a thing. Your example is specifically a capa

You can’t gate support on the App Store to specific hardware configurations, only platforms. At most you can make apps available to iOS or iPadOS separately but you can’t restrict the store listing to any category of iPhone or iPad device.

Sure but that doesn’t affect software compatibility which was what the person I responded to was talking about. There’ll be hardware compromises of course, but software should run fairly uniformly.

What differences in capabilities would there be? The cores are identical, it’s largely the topology that’s different.

Their end goal isn’t with AI per se. Mark wants to own platforms. He always has. That’s why they tried to make a phone, networks, VR headsets, horizon worlds and now glasses. AI is just their vessel to draw people in. It’s the flash that ge

Meta pays a lot. Most people there don’t work on the shady stuff and don’t pay attention to what else is going on. That’s generally the case for everyone I know who works there. Many of them are even quite liberal and will join protests for

Flash was great but it was from an era that brought a ton of baggage that wouldn’t have scaled without a full rethink. From energy use, to security and accessibility, it was very problematic.

Way to start of the comment by being uncivil. You could have made the exact same point without being a jerk about it. But it’s common to only want to support specific response codes in a context, and people do use enums for that. It’s a fai

Exhaustive matching doesn’t necessarily mean you handle every case separately, but it means you aren’t going to get cases you don’t know about sneaking in. With a bare int you can get values outside a range and the compiler won’t help
