In what sense is it a game changer? A lot of memory and thread safety guarantees in Rust are only applicable to user space. Removing that, there are still some great things in Rust (e.g. enums ergonomics) but also a few questionable things.

I don't know if I can trust the Verge's reporting on these subjects. When the original surface was released, they invented a new critical use case (lap-ability in an airplane seat, seriously?) so they could claim surface has a hug

For one, every security disaster starts with people listening to a random guy claiming that the probability of something being exploitable is virtually zero :) People who have been in this game more than six months would never making such a

Accepted answer: "Potentially, there is a tiny possibility... Keep in mind, it's a web application, and worse it can do is XSS attack" One sad thing about security is that everyone and their uncle is a security expert.

C type declarations are quite sane, until you need function pointers. Then things get really crazy. Consider this type declaration in Go: func(string) []func(int)[]*float64 This took me 5 seconds to write. The C/C++ counterpa

Are you thinking of sim lock? Android and ios boot mechanism are pretty identical: secure boot -> unlock modem -> unlock user area. There are some differences in where in the CPU this happes and how it is protected but Pixel phones ar

This is actually a pretty common problem with iPhone thefts in US. First the phone shows up the other side of the globe, then someone either tries to trick you or threaten you to remove it from your account.

Looks like they have added tons of features for this. This one really caught my eyes. "Theft Detection Lock is a powerful new feature that uses Google AI to sense if someone snatches your phone from your hand and tries to run, bike or

This looks extremly well written. I think the arch philosophy of great documentation is also spreading to its users. This makes me want to buy a new laptop and install arch on it :) Big kudos to the author.

Modem standby 0.3W?? I don't think CPU change alone will make these devices super-efficient. And why is web browsing such a battery sink? Are they using an old version of edge? Is it full of random extensions?? By the way, 15 minutes i

They have already achieved this in the microcontroller market. Check out WCH and their parent company Nanjing Qinheng Microelectronics. High performance is much harder, but they seem to have the money and the talent to eventually do it.
