I don't think there's any real future in catering to the most demanding users, most of which are completely unwilling to actually pay for a power user browser.

Firefox is genuinely fine, great even, I've used it for years and have no complaints. But you notice in all these threads, everyone who theoretically ought to use Firefox comes up with their own little list of nitpicks that justify the

They had a point back then because no alternatives existed. How many websites back then would be youtube channels, podcasts or social media accounts if they had existed back then? Nowadays most sites survive via traffic from google, if it g

If it reaches the point where google is no longer a useful driver of traffic then there's probably little point in having a website at all any more.

Self driving cars don't have to be on par with human drivers, they have to be WAY WAY safer else public backlash is likely to ban them. It's not like Waymo couldn't be rolling out faster, but it's obvious they're do

Good thing they made this move once daytime tv was basically irrelevant to anyone under 40 or it might've had some impact.

Essentially it's down to people having different tastes and standards regarding what they read. I adore world building so I gravitate to fantasy and scifi but I really don't care that much about characterisation. A story with a du

I'm a bit mystified by the hype for murderbot. I read it and thought it was OK but a lot of people rave about it. Still not every book is for every person, it didn't connect with me but it very obviously has its fans.

Or they recognised the fundamental problem which is that LLM's will kill the motivation for people to upload new information to feed the LLM's with. If websites can't earn a living through ads because LLM's don't se

Google photos is awesome. I genuinely love it, I've been uploading my old travel photos to it and every few days my phone reminds me of some old memories.

I'm pretty sure humans have been finding ways to unproductively waste time for millenium... I'm not sure how watching lightweight videos on subjects you're curious about is any worse than how people wasted time in the past? P

I doubt there's ever going to be a big bang moment where self driving just works everywhere. Instead it's going to be a slow rollout of self driving taxi's in increasingly different environments.

bayofpigs, I feel it necessary to tell you that your account seems to be shadowbanned? Like 80% of your comments have been [dead]/not shown since your account creation in 2013 and as far as I can see there appears to be no good reason

They'll have to figure it out because people aren't gonna write content just for openai to scrape it, the economics don't work.

I think they're gonna have to pay. The way reddit limited access to their API and got google to pay for access. Some variation of that but on a wider scale.

I think it was the switch from desktop search traffic being dominant to mobile traffic being dominant, that switch happened around the end of 2016. Google used to prioritise big comprehensive articles on subjects for desktop users but mobil

Well that's also an issue, the audience that wants a smaller phone is also spread across all the price points that the regular audience is. So it's even less viable for manufacturers to make small phones.

I think the key issue is that "owning" a car comes with a lot of expectations on behalf of existing customers. People are going to say that if they own it they should be able to mod it as they please, is that actually practical wi
