You're misunderstanding the point of the study. It wasn't meant to determine "is a one time payment going to solve poverty", it was "does it improve anything" and the answer is no, it doesn't, and it actua

I think a more appropriate example would be if the government did some work around the house and in the process damaged the house, thereby lowering the value. The thing being damaged is shareholder confidence, which I thought (but IANAL) ta

Couldn't other shareholders sue the government for tanking the stock and essentially "stealing" value from them?

I've never seen anyone argue against this that wasn't essentially, "oh well, deal with it I guess." The police can't make it in time, and have no duty to protect you. Any other weapon that doesn't provide dista

There seems to be a mindset among a large number of people that if a person's behaviors fall into certain socially "protected" categories, that they should be able to do whatever they want, with no consequences, or if there a

If you're deliberately engaging in risky behavior, you don't also get to blame the government for the consequences. The government is not there to facilitate every possible impulse people have at all times.

If the government says "we're taking your house for %x percent of the value" then yes, it is. Is extremely disingenuous to suggest that a gun "buyback" is voluntary. You either do it or you're a felon.

As cool as it is, scheduled jobs (and jobs in general) should really be isolated from the rest of your system and from each other to limit the blast radius. Jobs are notorious for crashing and backing up, so you really don't want that
