>anybody who is serious about gun control This sounds like a "no true scotsman" fallacy. If your definition of someone who is not serious includes people who say "rely on police to help", then it is circular logic.

Reminds me of the Star Trek TNG episode where Captain Piccard defends Data's sentience by asking the counterparty to define sentience. Spoiler: it touches on the idea that a human being—held to the same definition of "sentience&qu

The article makes 2 main points: 1) that this lawsuit will cause companies to take WFH away. and 2) It's extremely difficult to bill things like fractional electricity and internet usage. The first is a flimsy premise because companies

As we get closer to provable AGI, I imagine we'll see more and more of these types of stories, of people speaking out and listeners being uncertain of the claims. Reminds me of the Flesh Fair scene from AI[0] 0. https://www.

I haven't seen a single comment in this thread that alluded to "I am against any/all vaccinations", which is why "anti-vax" is a bad faith term.

"anti-vax" is a bad faith phrase that is intended to suggest that a person is against a vast range of science based medicine.

It seems like Google really underestimates the experience of lag. It's a deal breaker for many gamers. Yes, this is a super impressive demo, but having your screen glitch and lag frequently is infuriating enough to quit.

If history is a guide, then you are correct. But I believe complexity is fractal (I think we all know this: "turtles all the way down..."), and that you can structure and manage complexity with recursive rules, so that you only se

Imo, 99% of the time, ergonomics should take precedence over power. Power can always be added later with clever hacks, without ruining an ergonomic interface. But adding ergonomics to power is a much more broken process.

Huh, the DoJ article didn't make it clear that they were using existing identities for the padded votes, only that they were incrementing tallies. From the way it is written, it sounds like they don't need any existing identities

That's a fair point. Though I would argue that improving controls around voters make it easier to detect election fraud. If you can tie each vote to a real person, it becomes very difficult to add an arbitrary number of anonymous votes
