Probably insert another Step 1: implement tests Be they simple acceptance tests, integration tests, or even unit tests for some things.

Could you elaborate on this, not necessarily the code itself, but about signing and "an ec". I'm new to this and will be wanting to provide licences for software in the future.

As others have suggested the code should be refactored for testing so that the opening and reading of the file contents is separated from the processing of those contents, and futher separated from opening and writing out the converted text

I think it was 23H1 or 23H2 update that added the taskbar grouping option back. I've also not used Windows 11 in many months so I've probably forgotten a few other annoyances.

Only supporting grouped taskbar icons is a big inconvenience when actually trying to do work. Instead of clicking directly on the taskbar item which corresponds to the window you want to access it requires that you hover over the icon, then

Unfortunately it's the designers that are screwing up the UI/UX of Windows, not the programmers. If you give more time to the designers then you're just going to get more of a clone of OSX rather than something useful.

What's that joke about Software Managers being told to imagine they're on a plane on the ground and then asked if they would remain knowing their teams developed the plane software...

I would completely agree. From memory (because I left my copy of the Dragon book in another country) the book describes very well the first stages of compiler construction, describing the fundamentals of what Lex/Flex and Yacc/Bis

I can confirm that all future games at CD Projekt RED will be using Unreal Engine. Unless of course something changes during the development of the next Witcher game and they decide to go back to RED Engine.

As with many things at games studios using a different language (or unique technology) is usually driven by a single person. Once they leave or move out of the place where they could contribute and maintain it, unless it has support and buy

I'm sure with enough dedicated and enthusiastic people something better than Chrome can be implemented. Though will it survive at all is another question. Chrome has an effective stranglehold on the market, so for anything else to succ

For game development this should only matter on the game developers' machine, where there is more interaction with loose files on disk. For any shipped game being played on a player's machine the data files should be some form of

I always directly call the A or W versions of these functions. It makes things unambigious. Additionally I have my own Windows header file which undefines all of the macros so my function names do not get mangled with A and W suffixes.

I think it's easier for people to rationalise a simple cut of each sale rather than a fee for each "unique" installation . In the first case you can calculate that percentage easily in a spreadsheet and account for it in y

I would agree with the parent poster that game engines are more than frameworks. They often begin with a platform abstraction layer, contain a framework on how to structure your tools and data, often contain an embedded programming language

It's a good library but be careful as it can significantly increase compile times. I added a couple of reasonably long regular expressions to a c++ source file and it increased the compile time from near instant (below to 1 second) to

I did not define portable programs and archive extractors as installers, just suggested the act of decompressing to a directory or copying to a directory would be considered as installing the program.

Yes, that is what I mean by my last point: "It allows for portable installations and to run software just copied from other sources." You can think of decompressing from an archive as running a very simple installation program. If

I would disagree, files that the user cannot edit or should not edit should not be going into their home directory. Things like cache files should go into a system wide cache directory instead.

If that's the case then it would be simpler to just put that as the reason accounts can be closed. It would shift the blame to some government and at least give an air of transparency to the whole thing.
