It is absolutely, unquestionably unethical to do that. There's a huge, huge difference between proving a concept and stealing user data -- no matter what your end goal is. What possible positive outcome could he be looking for in tak

All I have to say is: thank you. Thank you to every single person involved with Kiva in any way. Every month I have an auto-deposit into my Kiva account, and I'm always excited to jump in and distribute the funds. The team I'm i

Very cool article. > Still, it’s somewhat surprising how easy it was to generate our ‘JIT’ interpreter — the code isn’t much bigger then the original version. Perhaps with some more scaffolding/helper libraries, this could be a viab

I was in a very, very bad accident at 16. I pulled myself out by the steering wheel (I was in the front passenger seat) and walked over to the other vehicle to ask if everyone was okay, before finding out that I was severely injured myself

Disclosing a fairly significant (albeit very niche) vulnerability like this via a comment on HN 3 weeks later isn't really best practice. Was there a disclosure prior to this post going up?

Instant Crush is one of my favorite songs in recent years, for what it's worth. The chorus is just absolutely meticulously well engineered and well performed. Couldn't stop listening to it for days, along with Doin' It Righ

I must say, I made a beeline for the security page and was not disappointed. While I think they underplay the risk of memory corruption flaws (namely by emphasizing backups to be critical, rather than isolating user data to minimize compro

On a scale of 1-10, it was about a 15 on the broken scale. As explained in the comments on the patch, a public exponent of 1 means a private exponent of 1 (it's the inverse). This makes it completely, trivially broken.

I'm going to speak strongly against the prevailing view in the security community here: a forgot password email/username oracle is not an issue . Not in any way, shape, or form. Why? Because if I go to register an account with

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to stay on the bleeding edge of things, building awesome products and generally having a good time, then sure, always keep learning and switching toolsets and all that. But there are niches (

One of my favorite books, but the chicken and egg problem is substantial. Hitting the "tax dodger" tipping point requires a huge number of people to break the law before it 1) has any impact at all, and 2) becomes unenforcable. I

I'm a bit baffled by this myself. I'm on the iOS 7 beta, and it's far closer to WP7 than Android. (Which is awesome -- I loved WP7, just wished it had apps.)
