> "I also never seen an eng org where substantial part of it didn’t do useless projects that never amount to anything" Bootstrapped companies generally don't do this btw. This is a symptom of venture backed companies.

One option (the one that I took) was to own both companies - in this case an agency that gave birth to the side project that became Flagsmith.

Yeah they did at the time for sure. When the A500 was released PC games were generally CGA/EGA. The A500 was way ahead of its time, especially when you account for how much they cost.

We are building out real time streaming and do have it in beta on our JS SDK currently (hit me up if you want to get onto the beta). HOWEVER! In our experience, it's one of those features that people think they need, but then when you

(Author here) That's a great, great question, and it is difficult. I think I might write this up as a separate post as there's a lot to unpack. There are pros to working for a bootstrapped company, but they less concrete than the

It's much easier if you also have paying consulting clients to bring in revenue alongside the bootstrapped project.

Thanks for the kind words. A LOT of the Flagsmith design and approach was built around solving problems that our consulting clients had (basically big UK blue chips doing cloud transformation). Starting with an agency can be a bit like enab

When you bootstrap, there can be room! We don't have half the board demanding 50% market share...

Haha we (Author here!) thought feature flags would be a pretty simple product to build 6 years ago. 6 years later we are still hard at it!

EVs do 100% need to get lighter. They are still quite a bit heavier than their ICE equivalents and tyre wear is (IMO) underappreciated as a toxin/pollutant.

As someone who much prefers bootstrapping businesses, this seems like a just insane amount of money to raise. If you had a growing popular product like this, why on earth would you raise that amount of money? This isn't a rhetorical qu

For those that dont know about the project, check out Open Feature https://openfeature.dev/ which is sort of like Open Telemetry but for feature flags. Helps avoid vendor lock in. We're a young project and looking for

This depends entirely on volume IMO. We [1] use Discord for this, and its great, but we don't have a large message volume. Discord seems way better than Slack for this use case as there's a single login which is built around conne

There are thousands and thousands of private bootstrapped business where the founders are banking 1-10M EBITDA every year. You almost never hear about them.

Sorry yes - thank you - I meant bootstrappers are far more common. My main point is that there's an enormous amount of survivor bias with VC backed companies. Bootstrapped: not so much.

Without question the bootstrapper. You almost never hear about them but there are thousands of them out there. They don't have huge PR VC teams behind them, hence you never hear about them.
