Waiting to see a similar announcement from Chimera, since Gnome is their flagship experience - unless they've got a workaround for this change.

Respectfully disagree, the kind of "advanced" users who typically use Gentoo actually do care about compiler optimisations. If you use Gentoo and don't care about it, I'd say you're in the minority of those users.

The topic of kids is a whole another debate - whether or not it is wise to give them an Internet-connected device - beause the same general concerns regarding the Internet exist on iOS as well. Regardless, if I had to give them a device, it

Not exactly end-user friendly, but this is exactly why I use Termux so much. I had the same image optimisation requirement so I just installed imagemagick via Termux and converted the images. Feels more easier to me to use standard Linux to

I can't speak for the V3, but Minisforum's AMD mini PCs (at least from the Zen 4 onwards) all have excellent Linux compatibility. I have the UM780 XTX and it's been a blast using it on Linux (Arch btw). A mate has a UM790, an

Unfortunately the binary packages are still only available upto x86-64-v3, so users on x86-64-v4 (which I reckon what majority of "advanced" users would be using) and even more so AMD Zen 4/5 users would be missing out on adv

One of the things I really like about Mosh is the responsiveness - there's no lag when typing text, if feels like you're really working on a local shell. I'm guessing SSH3 doesn't do anything to improve that aspect? (alt

I skimmed thru the article, saw "Ubuntu" and aborted. Sorry, but if you're using Ubuntu, your entire argument invalid. Use a _real_ non-rubbish distro, and I'll read your piece. Edit: I also notice that they were talking

This project hasn't had a release in 3 years... What's the point of sharing a link to a dead project (with no comments or explanation as to why you shared a dead link).

Because WinApps is just a collection of Bash scripts, and not everyone might want to work on a project of this scale using Bash. In fact, I was considering a rewrite of WinApps myself, using Rust and egui, but never got around to it...

It works, but no GPU acceleration, if you need that. Although there ware ways to achieve that via GPU passthru, it's not for the faint of heart.

More polished UI, easier to set up (distributed as an AppImage + a Windows Docker image), and it's written in Typescript + Go, whereas WinApps is mostly a collection of Bash scripts that requires you to manually set up your own Windows

Yes, it uses RemoteApps. You can set it up yourself using just a vanilla Windows VM + FreeRDP3, no need for this app and all the complexities (and bugs) they come with it.

Yes, Battle.net runs flawlessly in Steam, have zero issues playing D2R and D4 this way. In fact D4 ran flawlessly on Linux on Day 1, which came as a bit of a surprise to me.

Perfect, thank you! That link has pretty much all the info I was after. Pity it doesn't reach anywhere close to the theoretical speeds though, but hey at least it's better than 10GbE. :)

Has anyone here managed to get USB4 networking (USB4NET) working with an AMD mini PC (specifically ones from Minisforum)? I'd love to have a 40Gbps backlink for a Ceph cluster.

Doesn't matter, as long as it keeps winning battles. It doesn't need to dominate the marketshare. It's not some for-profit product that needs to answer to shareholders.

Ironically, the "native" option isn't really native, it's a virtual machine. Termux on the other hand is actually native, your Linux apps are running natively on Android's Linux kernel, no virtualisation involved.

No issues with my UM 780 XTX, been running mine for about two years as a homelab, running k3s and a bunch of random VMs. Are you sure you didn't buy an Intel one by any change? Because Intel is garbage.

Wayland. I like that I don't have to faff around with Xorg.conf etc, and that I can run mixed-DPI mixed-refresh-rate multi-monitor setups with zero issues - especially the fact that I can get blur-free fractional scaling.

I considered making a tool like this myself, but canned the idea because of Secure Boot - most PCs have it enabled by default these days, and the average non-technical person wouldn't bother disabling it. And trying to explain how to e

Not "a Linux server", it's just Ubuntu 24 and Debian 12, and only X11. :/ Strange choice to build on an X11 stack, when distros (such as RHEL) have started to deprecate it. Personally, I would've gone for a Wayland
