True, I got a little carried away with "Vanguard eating the world". I was just trying to get across the scale of 6% of the entire US stock market.

Owning a few percent of a Fortune 500 company will probably get you a board seat, and a 10% stake probably makes you the single largest holder (especially ignoring companies still held by the founders/family like Wal-Mart or Google). V

How did your friend find an apartment in Bed Stuy for only $450? Rent controlled? Splitting a bedroom with someone else? A quick search on streeteasy gives literally no apartments in Bed Stuy for less than $1k currently available, the cheap

Which sending a POST on every keystroke won't really help with anyway, because they can't tell that you typing "h-u-n" will match your old password of "hunter2", assuming it's properly hashed.

Is their algorithm so complex that it can't run in a reasonable time using client side javascript? I have trouble thinking of anything that isn't vastly over-engineered and runs slower than the network lag probably is.

There's a lot of historical context you're missing if you think axiomatic proofs are meaningless. Around the late 1800s, a few contradictory proofs started popping up because people weren't being rigorous enough (the example

I assume that's what the "$1.8 billion in consumer relief" is. Previous settlements over 2008 have also had some of the money earmarked for helping out distressed homeowners that were affected. The JP Morgan settlement in 201

That depends, RWD is harder to control even if the weight is on the back. Understeer is much safer than oversteer, unless you're a talented driver who knows what they're doing, and oversteer is way more likely in a RWD car.

And I'm sure the TSA agents will love a bunch of people saying "boom" at the airport, although maybe if it desensitizes them to it it's a good thing.

On top of that, when trains (and probably cars too) were first introduced, there were races between trains and horses to see which was faster. Nowadays that's pointless for anything other than short distances, but early on it was a goo

On top of what others have said, this actually doesn't apply to RSA at all. There are ways to factor the prime-product used in RSA faster if you believe the 2 primes are close together[1], so any good RSA key generator should be pickin

An infinite number of small numbers does not always add up to infinity! Since the apparent brightness of a star is an inverse-square law, if you assume there are an infinite number of stars, each 1 light year further away from you in a line

I'd say the Python library I used was borderline unusable, we stopped using Kafka (it was just a trial period, wasn't rolled to production yet) because of limits in one of the most popular Python interfaces. The interface worked w
