Seems like the kind of thing that'll be nice for the big language. The nice thing about Scheme is you can implement it in a weekend. You want as little as possible in it. But having standard recommended ways is a good idea. I.e. "IF you inc

Issues: 1) The solder should always be convex, not concave. It's not that way in the illustrations. A concave ball, as sometimes shown, may be a good connection to the pad, but a cold joint to the wire. It'll work, for a bit, but may eventu

This is one of the few things that occasionally made me happy when I was depressed a few months back. I wish there was some way for this to see wider circulation.

I sort of see the point, but reddit is dangerously close to dying. Already, it's a hotbed of misogyny and bigoted atheism. At the moment, there is one link to actual information on the front page (Seth Lloyd lecture), and one link to a new

About one decade. I'm still an MIT affiliate. Admissions has not changed, in this regard, since. There have been a lot of other changes (the students now are better rounded and better looking than when I was a student), but this is not one

Perhaps I was unclear. I had crappy grades in high school. High school homework was a pointless waste of time, so I didn't do it. I had good grades in 3 of 4 of my university math classes. Homework there was interesting and not a waste of m

Bullshit. They have the application process. You can ignore it. I did. I had shit grades in high school (not shit-by-MIT-standards, but actual shit). I took no time to do homework, and instead spent time reading math books and programming.

I do a lot of math. That makes LaTeX much faster to write than any alternatives. At this point, in math classes, I can take notes in real time. A properly written LaTeX file is also much faster to modify -- if I'm giving a presentation, and

> While each of your individual complains may make sense, as a whole, they are amusingly self-contradictory. I don't think they are. My basic take is that you break compatibility only when you really, really have to, and when it buys so

Sure. It doesn't fix the core problems. Global Interpreter Lock is still there. The semantic issues that make it very hard to optimize JiT are still there. It makes no effort to move towards the multicore era -- very minor changes would mak

I think it should be obvious that you use programming constructs only when difficulty of understanding it is less than the difficulty of understanding code without it (over the whole program). This applies to functions, classes, macros, fra

I'd disagree with the author. iPhone won't see very many large, high-risk applications developed as a result of Apple's approach. Apple screws over developers and partners too often. You will build a $1 application in a few man-months for i
