Sounds pretty good in theory, but this is for a router and somehow I doubt many ISPs are doing what you describe.

I've written a bit about DNSSEC. Adoption is only around 1-5%, deployment is a footgun [1], and validation currently imposes significant performance penalties [2], although that could be improved. I've also written about performan

For ZFS snapshots with restic I don't use the timed snapshots and instead create a new specially named one. There's a code snippet at https://medium.com/@cyounkins/correct-backups-require-filesy...

I feel like this should not have taken 5 days to notify that this was indeed in error. Put out a one-sentence tweet acknowledging there may be a problem.

Awhile back I tried running Windows under UTM on an M1 Mac. x86 versions were unusable, but even the ARM versions of Windows seemed to barely work. It appears that Windows 10 Arm allows x86 binaries but Windows 11 Arm allows x64 binaries [1

The SSH straight into tmux solution uses RemoteCommand and will break things like scp and rsync [1] I have this in fish config: function tsh ssh -o RequestTTY=yes $argv tmux -u -CC new -A -s tmux-main end and use `tsh host` [1]

SMART will report expected remaining lifespan. Another thing you can do is write k TB per drive where k is 0, 1, ... N-1 where N is the number of drives. This staggers the endurance so they don't all fail simultaneously.

Hot water heaters frequently have sacrificial anode rods to prevent corrosion. The rods corrode over time and dissolve into the water. Lower cost aluminum rods have health concerns, not as much with magnesium rods. See also Tom Scott's

Worth noting that around the end of 2020, Chrome and Firefox enabled cache partitioning by eTLD+1 to prevent scripts from gaining info from a shared cache. This kills the expected high hit rate from CDN-hosted libraries. https://

Yes, you are correct in that it does not guarantee correctness. Point-in-time snapshots are necessary but not sufficient. Without them, the possible corruption scenarios are infinite and cannot be handled or even detected. With them, it is
