I don't think this happens unless the author enables monetization on the article?
- gnicholas 4y agoThis is true, but the author is strongly incentivized to allow monetization because the question is posed in terms of "do you want publications to be able to republish this article" (paraphrasing). If you want this to be possible, then the article is put behind the paywall.
