Because of political bias. Just look at the introduction of the (fake) Nobel Prize for economics. It exists purely to legitimize a neoliberal economic ideology. Awarding Chomsky a Nobel Prize would undermine that goal.

A "socialist social network" sounds appealing, but the words "meritocracy" and "gamification" are red flags to me. I think I'll stick with mastodon for now.

Nobody is against feeding the homeless in soup kitchens. And it's disingenuous to imply anyone said so. The problem is that this is usually all these rich people do. Often times actively working against the systematic changes that wo

Not sure if this is a loading bug on my end, but if I zoom out, I'm seeing information for the UK, Ireland, India and nothing else. Zooming in anywhere else doesn't seem to reveal any more data. https://i.imgur.com/

The second part was going to be my complaint as well, but your observation about the catch for the finger is even more important. I think there might be some kind of lesson here. Rotary dials might be a usability punchline right now, but th

This quote doesn't apply to this at all. That quote is making fun of centrists. You are applying it from a centrist perspective to a leftist argument about individual acts of charity not contributing to the solution of systematic issue

Trusting your privacy on the moral and ethical compass of every individual at giant corporations is incredibly foolish. If this is a wide-spread belief at Google, it only further erodes my trust in the company.

If you want to get rid of "fragmentation" to make linux "win", you get rid of a big part of what makes linux "winning" a desireable goal in the first place.

Yes, a society organized around the profit motive is inhumane. That is the point I was making.

My point is that the entire reason why people say we need the profit motive to motivate people, is because caring for other people is not enough to motivate their behavior.

If people were driven because they care about other/all people rather than about their own material benefit, we wouldn't have designed a system based on the profit motive in the first place. Because it wouldn't have motivated
