A fun variation on this is to provide two bottles. Cover the labels with sheets of paper. Pour everyone a serving of each (different color cups works best), and tell them that one bottle costs less than $10, one costs $95. The group will ta

It's certainly true at all EAs aren't bad people. I'm just arguing that self identifying EAs are disproportionately bad people due to the attraction they have towards being labeled as such. Good EAs are less likely to be vo

I think capital gains are not really 'earning' something, in the standard English use of the word.

When people use moral identifiers, like 'altruist' or 'philanthropist' , etc. they are trying to shortcut past the normal societal repetitional mechanisms to be viewed as a moral person. The people who want to take these

You gotta get the SV nerds who run instagram stories to stop bending the knee to ads and focus on UX and make a product users actually enjoy using to be a viable competitor. Instagram has like a 3% success rate at suggesting content from pe

A lot of people in this thread don't seem to realize how they are starting down a path that will inevitably lead to McCarthyist fascism.

You place a lot more faith in the federal government than I do. CCP can do very little to impact me directly. The feds could ruin my life if they wanted to - just fabricate a few charges.

Twitter's biggest risk at the moment, IMO, is that Musk's layoff process may have over-selected ass kissers to the detriment of focusing on aptitude.

People are reporting twitter has retained less than 10% of pre-Elon employees now. Certainly plausible that twitter could survive without significant downtime, but it seems unlikely at this point: it appears Elon has been taking big reckles

The psuedojournalists you are referring to are worse than simple plagiarizers: they share content they lack the capacity to analyze, but still add their own spin. I think they have played a significant role in enabling many of the dumbest o

Boquila trifoliolata can do it within a single generation. Most weeds don't have this capability currently, but a strong selective pressure could make it happen pretty quick with the right lucky mutations.

If you only care about the dignity of your own job in the short term, maybe. If you care about the dignity of your coworkers and future workers in your industry generally, you would probably benefit from supporting a union.

What constitutes a 'good trader' is different for every market. Often (always?) it entails an understanding of that particular market that cannot be translated to other markets.

Skateboarders train themselves to run out early in their practice, in front of the garage when they hit a pebble at <5mph. And get frequent future practice. I imagine if your first skateboard fall was at 15+mph after a month of complace

There is a plant that mimics the shapes of other leaves - even if the leaves are made out of plastic. Pretty fascinating, the same photoreceptors suspected to enable this have been found in other plants, but the others don't use it to

Would be super cool to have an autonomous robot that could get a 'kill list' and destroy every invasive plant in an area while leaving everything else unharmed. Could be a fantastic diversity-enabling tool.

Paypal has always loved keeping money they didn't earn. They should be treated like a crypto exchange: never keep your funds with them, only use them to transact then move funds away (if no other alternatives available).
