People don't _require_ furniture or a haircut (i.e. you can survive without them). Everyone _needs_ to eat. Opting out of knowing how to take care of your own basic needs just because you can currently pay someone else to do it seems v

I understand why one wouldn't necessarily target users who just need a contact form for noncommercial use. However, you could have a business product that allows for team access to forms + support that offsets the cost of the super low

A forms service is not just useful to businesses. I'd love to have a real contact form on my website, but it's all static and I don't really want to run the infrastructure myself. $100/year is _way_ too much for that cas

It's still completely stateless from the dev standpoint (even if it's not truly stateless under the hood). It's more like a caches connection if that makes sense.

You can do that in PHP. The PHP database library has a persistent mode that you can use. See the last paragraph of example 3 + example 4 here: https://www.php.net/manual/en/pdo.connections.php

I recommend using yadm. It's basically just git under the hood, but it has some nice features that allow you to e.g. encrypt sensitive files, use different files depending on the OS/host, etc.

University of the People has a free-ish CS program. You might look into that. It's zero tuition, but you have to pay $100/exam (or at least that's what it was when I was looking at it).

I got an el-cheapo one from Staples. Same idea, same shape, etc. It helps a lot, but it takes some fiddling to dial in the right amount of tension pulling your shoulders back.

I used mercurial quite a bit back in 2010. It's nice, but I don't see the value in sinking a bunch of time into it these days. Every one of the projects that I interact with regularly are in a Git repo on some kind of Git hosting

I haven't used it yet, actually. I'm hoping that it's good enough for what I'm doing (which is more or less just a fancy CRUD app), but if it's not, then I can always wait on the web app until it's ready.
