Since the "O" in "ORM" stands for "Object" why are you surprised that a functional language like Clojure doesn't provide an ORM?

He certainly looks and sounds older. Rich seemed to ride the wave of Clojure's early success with a succession of brilliant presentations. Then .... nothing.

If you're coming to Kit from Luminus make sure you understand Kit's use of Integrant which involves passing `query-fn` down from the route to every function which accesses SQL. It was a deal-breaker for me.

Try Hy ( https://hylang.org ). Best of both worlds if Python floats your boat.

Maybe grafting async onto a single threaded dynamic language just isn't such a good idea in the first place.

Yes, at 62 I find myself obsessing over my days at university collecting old texts on eBay and making playlists of old tunes. Nostalgia can take over your life but it does exercise your memory.

What on earth does this tangled mess "simplify"? I've been at it with web dev for over 20 years and I was left scratching my head. The trouble with going down the JS rabbit hole is that you lose perspective on simplicity. **d

When Perl was popular (late 90s/early 2000s) it had the best performance of any interpreted language especially with regular expressions and mod_perl. If you're comparing Perl with Java or C++ that's apples to oranges.

PHP's big advantage over Node is that it comes with batteries included. Ok, those batteries could have been namespaced better but JS and Node suck more than any language because you have to import literally everything to get anything d

Java "beautifully designed"? Java 19 still can't parse a regex properly, ie. without having to escape metacharacters. Which other commonly-used language has such a lousy regex implementation?

How so? I see orders of magnitude more webdev jobs on Indeed.com than iOS jobs.

Another to reason, if one was needed, to leave iOS development well alone if you value your time.

The big one for me is the death of publicly funded education here in the UK. Before Thatcher's cuts in the mid 80s grants covered the total cost unless you had wealthy parents. Around the same time the Fair Rent Act was abolished. I da

With due respect to the tireless efforts of the TruffleRuby team TruffleRuby always seemed fated to be forever almost ready. I first came across it in 2013, I think it was, but there was always a not-quite-ready factor. If I remember the sh

Sadly, I don't share your optimism. If the current state of JS isn't proof enough that it is doomed to be forever reinventing itself I don't know what is. Layer upon layer is a recipe for disaster which soon becomes apparent
