Worse, Java regexen still require metacharacters to be escaped despite the recent introduction of raw string literals. Would you include Ruby in your comparison given that it inherits its regex implementation largely from Perl despite Onigu

I will never understand why a regex in Java still reqires metacharacters to be escaped despite the recent addition of raw string literals. Talk about stuck in the Stone Age.

Python's lambda sums up everything that sucks in Python. It's a crippled, half-assed implementation of something which is considered a basic requirement for any programming language aiming for mainstream adoption. Even Java 8 did

Definitely. Ian Clarke's Freenet has been around since March 2000 which is when I discovered Linux and Perl. The only thing I don't understand is why it was written in Java instead of C/C++. Napster was also built with Java,

Have a look at the Home Office part of gov.uk and I think you'll soon change your mind. Pure abomination. At one point, before I kicked up a fuss, they had 2 distinct links - Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and Biometric Residence Car

Blazor is a non-starter if you care about payload size and startup time. Fine for intranets but not much else.

The difference between the Lisp REPL and other, Algol-based programming shells (Node, Python, Ruby etc.) is in the R which stands for Read. The Reader is unique to Lisp since Lisp syntax approximates to an Abstract Syntax whereas other lang

The Clojure repl allows you to eval changes within a live application. Try that in PHP and I don't think you'll get very far.

The kind of repl the author refers to is strictly Lisp-based. Your F# repl wouldn't be any different from a Python or Ruby repl and falls well short of the Lisp/Clojure repl experience which is based on the code-as-data feature of

By what measure of "productive"? If you mean developer productivity Rust is, by the admission of its own community, the slowest development environment. Rust is great where memory safety is paramount but it doesn't compete in

I don't see how DHH has any say in the matter. It's the language which is statically or dynamically typed, not the framework.

I reverted to Vim after trying NeoVim for a few weeks simply because a lot of Vim defaults had to be chased-down and configured just to get basic Vim features in NeoVim. NeoVim also requires messing with a ton of config files compared with

Modulecounts.com shows Ruby gem output grinding to a halt. As Ruby's popularity declines a lot of gems will be unmaintained. It's a shame as I rate Ruby my favourite language after Clojure.

Raku is also, unfortunately, the slowest language I've ever used especially, paradoxically, for regex and string handling given its Perl lineage.
