I don't know about English acquisition, but your timeline is way off for Chinese language acquisition, even for younger children brought to China. An aggressive timeline for adults in-country would be about 2 years to conversational fluency

Classic Moser essay. I thought this would be a post about spoken languages as well, and would put mandarin at the top of the list as well. Since people are still hiring here (especially in tech related fields), I will happily take this oppo

Will simplify credit card processing for me if they go out of business. My merchant processor only supports mastercard and visa. "We don't take Amex... neither does anyone else."

If you need a fast object-oriented language that can interact with most C software and libraries and doesn't need a fancy GUI, C++ is great.

Sounds like a great job. GIZA++ is an incredible piece of software and it sounds like they've got a great team.

Fantastic game. I actually thought Psychonauts was even better. Tim Schafer is a very rare gem.

My girlfriend just spent 3 hours copying her contact info from one phone to the next. Facebook could easily charge people for exporting their contact info into other applications.

How do you get efficient outcomes in monopolistic markets without government involvement? Where substantively do you feel more efficient government is problematic?

I'm tired of the blame the unions meme. Honestly. If the cost of labor is too high invest in robots. The Japanese do it. Or stop building things at a loss, call it quits and go home. I know everyone loves Ron Paul on the Internets, but one

Perhaps someone could share the idea. Video files don't work for a lot of (text-oriented) surfers, and it would be useful not to have to read the book to know if it is any good..

I think you can afford to worry less about CSS and other sorts of compatibilities at this point. Still important to make sure javascript doesn't break.

Use Google Alerts and Google News to track keywords related to your product. You'll pick up a lot of SEO spam with the former, but it's a decent way to make contacts with journalists writing on related subjects.

James K. Galbraith wrote the best response to these harpies who - lest we forget - were advocating a Social Security privatization (read stock market pump and dump) scheme as little as a year ago. -------------------------------------------

Better question is why you would sell short stock in a company that someone is known to want to buy?
