What did I do wrong, specifically? What should I change, specifically? Are you saying maybe he took away voting because I wrote annoying comments?

I don't think he'd enjoy that email, so I haven't sent it. He chose not to contact me about this, presumably for a reason. This, on the other hand, is a public thread where it's relevant to the topic in the parent comments. I haven't asked

It's not a matter of different standards, it's a matter of: if you can't lead active yc users, why would you be able to lead an influx of new reddit (or techcrunch or whatever) users? rms for example is apologetic and offered to do what you

Why do you say that? I think failing to get along peacefully with leaderboard users is a bad sign.

why do you figure pg is amazingly good at this? he already banned me and rms from voting. that doesn't seem to suggest great leadership skills.

It's good of you to warn me. But even if you never reply (or even read it) I'll be glad to have thought about something interesting to me, and (hopefully) to have written something good. If it turns out well enough, I can even reuse it else

IMO revolutionaries are worse than conservatives. They are more destructive. And there's more ways to be wrong than right. It's a bit like doing rewrites of major production systems. Not a good idea. But of course it's much worse because hu

We can't avoid all problems, so the general strategy we need is to get more knowledge so we can be better at solving unforeseen problems. And it's not reasonable to fear the unknown on principle. Being "conservative" by avoiding an advance

Look at amazon, ebay, and walmart -- very useful things to have. Selling lots of 'first-order' goods, cheaply, helps a lot of people tremendously. It's not clear to me how to judge which is better, but it is clear to me that both are awesom

How about a web 2.0 site for parents (large potential audience) with social features that tells them that their ideas about parenting are deeply mistaken. That's bound to be a big hit.

the way to accumulate money is: you create wealth. you give it to other people in exchange for money -- for promises to pay you back in wealth later. then accumulating money means you don't call in those promises, you just hold on to them

Parents are sometimes mistaken, so strategies that rely on the parent being right in all disputes result in some avoidable mistakes. I want policies for how to live that function reasonably well even for people who have flaws and sometime

yes, we are here discussing . there's no call for fighting . silly or dumb opinions are inconsequential on the scale of things that matter before you'd want to consider violence.

Most of my practical advice is nothing too special. You could get video previews for some shows, or get descriptions or read reviews and explain what it's about to child and see if he likes the sound of it. You can offer to get more of the

I kinda think it's part of a parents job to decide what young children see and hear. Yeah, that is the thing I've been disagreeing about. I don't think "stuff the parent thinks is good/bad" is a reasonable criterion for what a child gets

Core beliefs about religion might be similar, but not about attitudes to parenting. I've only expressed a small part of my disagreement.

We aren't disagreeing about the merit of that show. We are disagreeing about the merit of the parent making all the decisions about what the kid is allowed to watch.
