shortly after A financing , existed 2 years , and 3 years after was exit , I don't know what were salaries before , but it was < 30 people when I joined anyhow it is just a datapoint and most likely outlier

there are couple misconceptions here 99% of startups don't solve hard problems (it seem hard to them because they are inexperienced and excited but in all reality not so challenging ) , that doesn't mean they don't have good

I found that up to +/- 4hr works , other makes life really hard For example we have team in Singapore 12 hr diff , every communication is so delayed that is really painful

Not sure that age discrimination is rampant but I do believe (and witnessed in interviews) that lot of people don't keep up with technology and then later use age discrimination as excuse. Experience in relevant technologies trumps alm

Autodesk is one for example.Again that is not substitute for STD and LTD it is for cases when lets say you get 2-3 day sickness (cold or something like that)

actually I wrote 6502 and Z80 with opcodes also if you look up for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KIM-1 you will see how I entered code, all with calculating jumps and branches in head. It is actually fun exercise

I would think NASA has even more controls in place and still shit happens. All problems are avoidable in hindsight but it is inevitable that you will have problem at some point.
