Afaik they are opening it up to a much wider audience in the recent weeks. I also got it just 2 days ago, and applied the same way as your SO, only providing "developer" and nothing else.

I beg to disagree. I think it makes much more sense for simple illustrations for articles, presentations and books ("pencil sketch" style). For logos, especially since you'd usually want simpler shapes, less detail, with a lo

I might have not been too clear about it in the article, so if I haven't, I agree! All of this was just me finding a practical purpose to go for while having fun with Dalle. If I was really serious about a logo, I would definitely go a

Hey, author here, happy to answer any questions! The logo was created for OctoSQL[0] and in the article you can find a lot of sample phrase-image combinations, as it describes the whole path (generation, variation, editing) I went down. Let

Hey! OctoSQL[0] author here, this is really impressive! I like this much more than the approach taken by other sqlite-based tools which first load stuff into SQLite and then let you query it. On the other hand, it does have a cons that it d

iCloud does that on iOS right now. Some, like Bear, still sell a subscription while using iCloud for syncing (not to bash on Bear, the price is reasonable).

Also, forgot to mention, the excalidraw plugin is absolute magic, and works great with an iPad. TLDR: You can embed excalidraw drawings/diagrams in your notes and edit them there. Moreover, inside of the excalidraw diagram you can use

I recently dived more into obsidian (coming from Bear) and I must say I really like it so far. I'm not using the personal knowledge management bit too much yet, but as a note taking app it's great. Moreover, the plugin ecosystem (

You're using "never" everywhere here. That is in my opinion the main red flag here. On-call should be at most one week in four-six. Moreover, with a healthy on-call culture (where stuff is fixed, and alerts happen rarely in

If it's in the contract you sign, then it's already priced in. I don't see much value in specifically outlining which part is base and which is for oncall, if oncall is mandatory.

On-call is just fine as long as: 1. There is a rotation. 2. There are few pages, preferably the median should be 0 per week. 3. Spurious / non-actionable alerts get fixed right away (with very high priority) 4. You're not up more

The docs panic issue has now been fixed[0] and released[1]. Thanks again for mentioning it! [0]: https://github.com/cube2222/octosql/commit/f7a1b92ba65584bc6... [1]: https://github.com/cube222

This is now fixed[0]. I've released a new version (v0.8.1) and now a query like this should once again take just ~tens of milliseconds to complete. [0]: https://github.com/cube2222/octosql/commit/ba4a8896

Thanks for writing about this! This is a performance regression in the v0.8.0 release it seems, where the outer LIMIT clause doesn't correctly short-circuit evaluation. Overall, for a `LIMIT 10` query, it should basically be instantane

Probably not too hard. The root.go file (in the root directory) does all the plumbing, so you should be able to either use OctoSQL as a CLI, or create your own based on that file.

Thanks for mentioning it! I've never heard of Teiid and it indeed does seem to have some architectural commonalities. To me, the main differences look like they are 1. Teiid is mainly targeted at OLTP workloads, while OctoSQL is more O

I'm not sure how Vaex works, but for what it's worth, OctoSQL doesn't load whole Parquet files into memory. It will only read the columns that are used in your query and will read those columns page by page (Parquet columns a

Could you please explain in more detail what you mean (I'm not sure what you mean with "EL approach")? OctoSQL isn't really meant to be used "at scale", as it's not distributed. It's not trying to com

When a plugin starts, it begins listening on a local unix socket with a gRPC server. The main OctoSQL process then connects to that gRPC server for each plugin. Omitting a bunch of details, each record stream will end up being a gRPC strea

That does actually sound like it could be scenario one too. If you have a lot of small requests, with only few requests active at the same time, but many requests per second overall, with each making a few allocations, you will have a small
