Mencken once said that many Americans, due to their Puritan roots, live in "The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy." This surveillance and its informants, such as are discussed in this article, seem to me to be th

I feel the need to push back on this meme. "Hiring is broken" for the same reason so many other things in this world are broken. Because in the end, hiring a political decision, not a rational or technical one. To get hired anyw

Yes totally agree. The best way that I learned OO was when it was explained that, in most cases, its best to take objects as nouns (ie Item, Book, Prices etc) and the object methods should be verbs (ie do_something() or act_on_this() etc)

Ok, but it surely can be known (and obviously was due to the get_price() interface stub) that every Item will have a Price, so I stand by my intuition that a Price object could be included in Item.

Why not just bake the various Price components right into Item, besides the get_price action? Every Item should have a price (ie the get_price stub), so I don't think it would be bad design to include it. If Item includes a Price obje

No they were not...none of the examples you gave were democratic Republics that were based on the Rule of Law, so I'm not sure what's to discuss here. Comparing the US today with Soviet Russia under Stalin or NK under Kim is so il

We don't live in a totalitarian society. We live in a society which is governed on the idea of the Rule of Law. Big difference.

This is so very true, and not only that, they use their ridiculous exclusionary and arbitrary hiring practices as a self-enforced proof that they absolutely need more low cost H1B workers.

Your nativity on how "criminal justice" and law enforcement works is kinda astounding to me. If a judge orders an injunction against these citizens and they don't comply, he won't fine them, he will jail them, which is
