with DCA (dollar cost averaging) let's say right now you started buying at the market bottom. And so you're just averaging up in price each month you buy. In this instance it would've been better to have bought everything all at once in t

Instead of asking users to abandon XP/IE6 - why not just issue a simple patch for the flaw? Of course that would mean less sales of Win7, etc. which I guess is the real reason they're asking users to abandon it parlaying the security situa

If you don't know what Balsamiq is you probably haven't been paying attention for the past year or so, or just don't read startup news all that often. Although they're not as well known as 37 signals, anyone that wants to start an internet

Just getting lucky with one stock doesn't make you a great investor. Do this a several more times over a period of 5 to 10 yrs then check back. Also with 20 yrs of development experience (and assuming starting to code at 20 yrs old) - I ta

Thanks for the link. Been looking for something to learn and try trading algorithms in. We use a CPLEX solver library from IBM at work but it's not used for trading but for optimizing a different set of constraints. Interesting to see MS

Make money by writing an algorithm for trading. I've tried the startup thing for so long now (over 20 yrs), and haven't succeeded and so I think I just don't have what it takes. Time to move on and try something else for a change instead

Most people "borrow" but hopefully have enough decency to change it enough to make it their own, or at least give credit where credit is due as long as the "borrowing" was allowed by the original property owner.

Google is just everywhere. I like the idea of barcode scanning on the decals via your phone to pull up the restaurant for submitting/looking up reviews.

It's ok to be slightly ticked off but not always angry. Maybe it is the work conditions. If so switch jobs. However, if you've been switching jobs for a while now and still feel the same way at every job, then either you've got bad luck w

I actually felt more productive working at home. I did so last week -- and at the end of the day I still had my laptop plugged in and didn't have to shutdown to commute home, thus worked a few more hrs later than I would have at work. I g

It looks interesting just from the few mins. of video, but I'd have to play with it to make a more informed decision as to it's usefulness. Unfortunately it's only invite only beta.

I went to a DWR store in Atlanta and they had horrible customer service. Pretty much didn't even acknowledge me even though the place was practically empty. That was the first and last time I visited them.

Small is nice until you've exhausted learning the nooks and crannies of the language, making you crave the ability to do more with it. Then more gets added until it isn't small anymore.

I'm not sure I would recommend investing in mutual funds in the blog post. It makes me feel cheated and sick to know that the mutual fund "managers" there (whom for the most part switch out every few years or so) get paid more for doing th

You can always go to another website. I'd prefer websites to be focused. I'd want HN to be mainly about how to realize your dream in creating a successful startup. If I want hilarious stuff I'd go to YouTube, TMZ, etc.

I'd rather be able to skim and search/jump around through text than have to read through a video. Plus videos typically are fuzzy and hard to read what needs to be typed (I can't just copy/paste), and are a waste of bandwidth.

Why would I pay $100 for this instead of using a free website like ComputerJobs.com, Dice.com, Monster.com etc? I'd think the quality of employers would be about the same. So far I see zero benefits for me but lots of moola for JoS.
