Saying it's a cheap knockoff is harsh. Every new framework copies something from existing ones. Setting routes with a decorator seems pretty obvious if you've seen Sinatra, and the templating language is more inspired by Django than anythin

This is commonly used in python modules which can also be run by command line. http://effbot.org/pyfaq/tutor-what-is-if-name-main-for.htm I do agree though, it would be better to remove the if statement altogether since it's unlikely to b

I'd try tornado then. It has class based handlers, runs great on appengine, a very nice templating language, XSRF protection, secure cookies, and more. http://www.tornadoweb.org/

I'm a poor self-promoter. <snip> But again, I'm not even a real programmer. Modesty isn't very useful when promoting. Tell us why your framework is better!

Although this talk is mostly slanted towards language APIs, I thought I'd share some tips for writing Web APIs: - Don't roll your own auth. Use HTTPS and include username/password in POST parameters. - Avoid Sessions. - Strict

What sort of possibilities? I'm running some sites on Google's AppEngine, and recently found out that it is blocked due to the GFW. I don't see any signs of that changing, especially with this new policy.

A few weeks ago, I spoke with someone who contacted me through the co-founder wish list. He would have benefited greatly from this article. I spent over an hour listening to him over Skype, name dropping and extolling the technical virtues

Why? Advertising has been around for hundreds of years, and is involved in nearly every medium of communication. I'd wager that a high percentage of HN users who own businesses are advertising on Google or Facebook.

Thanks for the feedback! I don't think of Caterpi as something to manage translators; it's more of a platform for translators. This is an important distinction to make, since traditionally, translation agencies frown upon direct communic

I disagree. I think this is a perfect topic for HN; Dressing well is important in improving self confidence, and it is vital in making good first impressions (useful for VC funding ;). If this doesn't make sense to you, think of how you per

Appengine's GQL is a very limited subset of SQL. The only queries which can be performed are those that can scale well, so it's doubtful that even simple things like JOINs will be supported in the future. http://code.google.com/appengine/

I'm not convinced. JSON objects have attributes and can contain child elements. Ordering can be provided by arrays. Namespaces are also easy to create within objects; an example would be the "type" attribute from the Freebase API. For ver
